A distinction is drawn here between a normed Classical Arabic such as was defined by Ibn al-Sarraj’s (d. 316/928) Al-ʔUṣuwl fiy l-Naħw and the earlier, monumental, heterogeneous grammar of Sibawaih (179/789).

Transforming Standard Arabic to Colloquial Arabic

We present a method for generating Colloquial Egyptian Arabic (CEA) from morphologically disambiguated Modern Standard Arabic (MSA). When used in POS tagging, this process improves the accuracy from 73.24% to 86.84% on unseen CEA text, and reduces the percentage of out-of vocabulary words from 28.98% to 16.66%.

Arabic GramCheck: a grammar checker for Arabic

Arabic is a Semitic language that is rich in its morphology and syntax. The very numerous and complex grammar rules of the language may be confusing for the average user of a word processor. In this paper, we report our attempt at developing a grammar checker program for Modern Standard Arabic, called Arabic GramCheck.
