The evolution and future horizons of research on the metabolism of arachidonic acid by 5-lipoxygenase

Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, 1984
Leukotrienes have potent biologic actions in various biologic systems. Leukotriene (LT) B4 has inflammatory properties and has been detected in exudates from human inflammatory disease including psoriasis. LTC4, LTD4, and LTE4 have potent bronchoconstrictor actions in vitro and in normal human subjects. LTE4 causes very long-lasting bronchoconstriction.

Kinetic Studies on Arachidonate 5-Lipoxygenase from Rat Basophilic Leukemia Cells

Biological Chemistry Hoppe-Seyler, 1988
Arachidonate 5-lipoxygenase of a 10,000 x g supernatant from RBL-1 cell homogenate was studied by a continuous assay measuring enzyme-catalysed oxygen consumption. Parallel HPLC and TLC analysis of arachidonic acid metabolites revealed that the oxygen consumption measured is solely due to 5-lipoxygenation of arachidonic acid. Oxygen consumption by this

Cerebral Edema Induced by Arachidonic Acid: Role of Leukocytes and 5-Lipoxygenase Products

Neurosurgery, 1989
Arachidonic acid is released from cellular phospholipid membranes after brain injury associated with vasogenic edema. Intracerebral injection of arachidonic acid results in rapid breakdown of the blood-brain barrier, followed by an increase in brain water and sodium content.

Lipoxin Syntheses by Arachidonate 12- and 5-Lipoxygenases Purified from Porcine Leukocytes

1988
Recently, we were successful in the purification of 12-lipoxygenase1 and 5-lipoxygenase2 from porcine leukocytes by immunoaffinity chromatography using their monoclonal antibodies which were raised with the crude enzyme preparations as antigen3, 4. In this chapter the lipoxin biosynthesis will be discussed as catalytic properties of these purified ...

Identification of the Arachidonic Acid 5-Lipoxygenase and its Function in the Immunity of Apostichopus Japonicus

Fish & Shellfish Immunology
A number of studies have been demonstrated that arachidonate 5-lipoxygenase (ALOX-5) plays a role in regulating a range of physiological and pathological processes through the catalysis of leukotriene formation from arachidonic acid (ARA). The coding sequence of ALOX-5 from Apostichopus japonicus (Aj-ALOX-5) was successfully amplified, resulting in a ...
