Concerning the fossil orders, Dunlop (1996a, b) presents a revised concept of the formerly accepted (Weygoldt and Paulus 1979; Shultz 1990) five fossil orders of Arachnida. The subclasses of Petrunkevitch (1949) have been rejected, Anthracomartida – synonymized with Trigonotarbida.
