Infratentorial arachnoid cysts

Journal of Neurosurgery, 1973
✓ A series of 20 cases of arachnoid cysts in the posterior fossa is reported. Classification was made according to the location of the cysts. Accurate clinical localization was only possible with cysts in the cerebellopontine angle. Ventriculography and pneumoencephalography were the most helpful investigations for making the diagnosis.

Intraspinal arachnoid cysts

Clinical Neurology and Neurosurgery, 1984
Arachnoid cysts are rare lesions responsible for spinal cord compression. Five cases of congenital intraspinal arachnoid cysts are reported. Three cases of thoracic and two cases of thoracolumbar region were encountered. The clinical presentation was one of progressive spastic paraparesis. The characteristic radiological features are described. Surgery

Arachnoid Cysts

2012
Arachnoid cysts are fluid-filled duplications or splittings of the arachnoid layer with a content which is similar but not equal to the cerebrospinal fluid. Arachnoid cysts are not actual neurodegenerative disorders, rather the underlying defect of the texture of the arachnoid layer is probably congenital in nature.

CONGENITAL ARACHNOID CYSTS

American Journal of Roentgenology, 1969
Three cases of congenital arachnoid cysts are discussed. They all presented with hydrocephalus. The benign nature and the importance of early surgical intervention are emphasized.More severe hydrocephalus results from the posterior fossa and quadrigeminal plate cysts because of pressure on the aqueduct and the fourth ventricle.

Peripetrosal arachnoid cysts

Current Opinion in Otolaryngology & Head & Neck Surgery, 2007
The present review summarizes the current theories on arachnoid cyst formation, the common presentations of cysts surrounding or eroding the temporal bone from the middle and posterior cranial fossae, the diagnostic strategies and the management considerations and options.Arachnoid cysts are most common in the middle cranial fossa and rarely present in

Intracranial arachnoidal cysts

Child's Nervous System, 1992
Twenty-eight cases of intracranial arachnoidal cysts diagnosed during the period 1978-1990 are analyzed. All cases were investigated with computed tomography (CT), 5 with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and 5 with ultrasonography (US). Seventeen were located in the middle cranial fossa, 3 in the quadrigeminal cistern, 2 were parasagittal, 3 ...

Editorial: Arachnoid cysts

Journal of Neurosurgery: Pediatrics, 2012
Arachnoid cysts possess several features that make them ideal targets for primary endoscopic fenestration. First, the target membrane is typically avascular. Second, there are generous amounts of CSF for optimal image transmission. Third, the technique of membrane fenestration is amply familiar to surgeons regularly practicing neuroendoscopy ...

Paramesencephalic arachnoid cysts

Neurology, 1976
The term "paramesencephalic" is proposed to describe the location of a general class of arachnoid cysts observed in four patients. These cysts, which appear to arise within the subarachnoid space, are characterized by a lack of communication with the ventricular system. Usually, the arachnoid tissue is normal, and the cyst fluid resembles cerebrospinal

Infratentorial arachnoid cysts

Journal of Neurosurgery, 1985
✓ The infratentorial compartment represents the second most common location of arachnoid malformations. Ten arachnoid cysts of the posterior fossa, operated on between 1970 and 1983, are reviewed. These lesions, although congenital and developmental in nature, may present at any age, and males are more frequently affected.
