Arachnoiditis ossificans is an uncommon clinical entity in which arachnoid ossification leads to clinical symptomatology. In this case report, we describe the case of a myelopathic patient with arachnoid ossifications, an arachnoid cyst, and syringomyelia coexisting with a herniated thoracic disc at the same levels. An 81-year-old woman presented with ...

One hundred patients with lumbosacral adhesive arachnoiditis documented either directly at surgery or by unequivocal myelography served as the basis for this report on the pathologic process. Nomenclature for this disease, involving radiculitis, arachnoiditis, and adhesive arachnoiditis, is proposed.

Arachnoid cysts are fluid-filled duplications or splittings of the arachnoid layer with a content which is similar but not equal to the cerebrospinal fluid. Arachnoid cysts are not actual neurodegenerative disorders, rather the underlying defect of the texture of the arachnoid layer is probably congenital in nature.

Survey of Anesthesiology, 1984
Eighteen cases are reported in which the myelographic appearances of adhesive arachnoiditis were found. These patients have had intrathecal steroid injections as either the only procedure or the most likely procedure that could have induced such changes.

Arachnoiditis and Arachnoid Cysts
1986Acute or subacute leptomeningeal infections (probably even some transmitted transplacentally) can be followed by a chronic reaction in the arachnoid leading to the formation of arachnoid cysts. Moreover, specific lesions may be induced by developmental errors. These all are not discussed in the WHO classification.
