Electrochemical Monitoring of Steel Corrosion in NS4 Solution Under Cathodic Protection Environment: Insights of Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy

open access: yesMaterials and Corrosion, EarlyView.
Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) monitored corrosion on mild steel under cathodic protection in soil‐like conditions. CP reduced corrosion from 410 to 7 µm/yr, shifting the mechanism from mixed activation–diffusion to activation‐controlled, enabling protective calcareous and oxide film formation.

Trace element and stable isotope data from a flowstone in a natural cave of the mining district of SW Sardinia (Italy): evidence for Zn2+-induced aragonite precipitation in comparatively wet climatic conditions

open access: yesInternational Journal of Speleology, 2011
A speleothem from Crovassa Azzurra, a mine cave in SW Sardinia (Italy), has been analysed for mineralogy, minor and traceelements and stable isotopes. It is composed of layers of primary calcite and aragonite, with a region of secondary calcite.

CONCRETIONS WITH FOSSILS OF THE ULYANOVSK REGION - A NEW KIND OF JEWELRY-ORNAMENTAL RAW MATERIALS

open access: yesИзвестия высших учебных заведений: Геология и разведка, 2018
Concretions with fossils of the Ulyanovsk region are a new kind of jewelry and ornamental raw materials. Concretions are located in the middle part of the section of the Hauterivian sediments, which formed by dark gray dense clays. Concretions are dense,

Insights Into the Mechanisms Controlling the Residual Strength of Bio‐cemented Sands

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical and Analytical Methods in Geomechanics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Microbially induced carbonate precipitation (MICP) is an emerging technique for enhancing the mechanical properties of granular soils. Although several experimental studies have reported increased shear strength in MICP‐treated soils at both peak and residual states, other findings have shown reductions in residual strength compared to ...

Assessment of crystallographic influence on material properties of calcite brachiopods [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Calcium carbonate biominerals are frequently analysed in materials science due to their abundance, diversity and unique material properties. Aragonite nacre is intensively studied, but less information is available about the material properties of ...

Traditional and Geometric Morphometrics and Invariant Shape Descriptors of Catfish Otoliths in the Yucatán Peninsula: Tools for Species Identification and Individual Size Estimation at Maya Archaeological Sites

open access: yesArchaeometry, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study investigates the use of otolith shape analysis for species identification and size estimation in Ariopsis felis and Bagre marinus, based on 181 modern otoliths obtained from a scientific collection and recent sampling in the coastal regions of Campeche and Yucatán, as well as 39 archaeological otoliths corresponding to the Early ...

Drivers of CO2-carbonate system variability in the coastal ocean south of Honolulu, Hawai’i

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science
This study examines carbonate chemistry variability from 2008 to 2021 in subtropical coastal waters adjacent to Honolulu, Hawai’i. We use surface seawater carbon dioxide partial pressure (pCO2sw) measurements obtained every three hours from two buoys ...

Environmental controls on the stable isotopic composition of Mercenaria mercenaria: Potential application to paleoenvironmental studies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
We have investigated the environmental controls of seasonally resolved records of oxygen and carbon isotopes of modern Mercenaria mercenaria bivalves collected live from five coastal sites along the east coast of North America.
