Coseismic Slip and Early Rapid Afterslip of the 2025 MW 7.7 Myanmar Earthquake Constrained by Space‐Based Geodetic Observations

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 52, Issue 22, 28 November 2025.
Abstract The 2025 destructive Myanmar earthquake ruptured the previously recognized seismic gap along the Sagaing fault, with the longest ever recorded surface ruptures (∼ ${\sim} $500 km). Here, we use SAR and optical images to characterize coseismic and early postseismic deformation of this event.

Estimating site amplification variability in Yangon, Myanmar, from a dense nodal seismic array

open access: yesEarthquake Spectra, Volume 41, Issue 4, Page 3168-3189, November 2025.
We explore a novel acquisition geometry that can be used to estimate the linear component of site amplification using a dense nodal seismic network installed in Yangon, Myanmar’s largest city. The city is surrounded by several seismically active faults, including the Sagaing Fault, which is capable of generating Mw > 7.0 earthquakes.

Bilateral Supershear Rupture of the 2025 MW 7.7 Myanmar Earthquake Imaged by Global P‐Wave and Regional Surface‐Wave Back‐Projections

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 52, Issue 20, 28 October 2025.
Abstract We present high‐resolution rupture imaging of the 2025 MW 7.7 Myanmar earthquake using global teleseismic P‐waves and regional‐distance Rayleigh waves. Most radiated energy was released near the epicenter within the first 20 s, followed by bilateral rupture propagation along the central Sagaing Fault, extending ∼350 km southward and ∼100 km ...

Improving Dryland Depth to Water Table Estimate Using an Integrated Model With Three Submodels

open access: yesWater Resources Research, Volume 61, Issue 10, October 2025.
Abstract Investigating dryland phreatic water assets requires an in‐deep understanding of depth to water table (DWT). However, current DWT methods suffer from limited accuracy and demand refinement. Therefor, this study suggests one novel integrated model cascaded by twin, assimilation, and DWT submodels.

How does religion influence an emerging nationalism? Evidence from the Kurdish context in Turkey

open access: yesNations and Nationalism, Volume 31, Issue 4, Page 982-1002, October 2025.
Abstract Based on qualitative interviews with 66 Sunni Muslim Kurdish elites, this study reveals that Kurdish Islamic circles in Turkey are not monolithic, homogeneous or fixed. Stalled Repatriation of Rohingya Refugees: Diplomatic Hurdles, Regional Politics, and the Path to Sustainable Solutions

open access: yesAsia &the Pacific Policy Studies, Volume 12, Issue 3, September 2025.
ABSTRACT The Rohingya people have sought refuge in Bangladesh following decades of ethnic and religious persecution in Myanmar. After the mass exodus in August 2017, Bangladesh launched emergency repatriation initiatives. In November 2017, Bangladesh and Myanmar reached a preliminary agreement on repatriation, despite widespread concerns from human ...
