Araneae of Canada [PDF]

open access: goldZooKeys, 2019
In 1979 nearly 1400 spider species in 32 families either had been recorded (1249) or were believed to occur (~140) in Canada. Twenty years later, although significant progress had been made in survey efforts in some regions, Canada’s spider inventory had only increased by approximately 7% to roughly 1500 species known or expected to occur.

Taxonomic and functional differentiation of spiders in habitats in a traditional olive producing landscape in Italy

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Entomology, 2020
Annual crops are generally assumed to host simplified arthropod communities that depend on immigration from the surrounding landscape. Perennial, low-input crops such as olive groves are likely to depend less on immigration from other habitats, however ...

Imperfections in perfect architecture: The orb web of spiders

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Entomology, 2013
Among animal constructions, the orb webs of spiders are perfect geometrical architectural models. Webs are constructed by means of a succession of behaviours, which are often considered as instinctive and stereotyped.

Heat but Not Cold Tolerance Is Phylogenetically Constrained in Greenlandic Terrestrial Arthropods Under Future Global Warming. [PDF]

open access: yesGlob Chang Biol
In this study we describe the temperature limits for almost 8% of the Greenlandic arthropod fauna (insects and spiders). By combining this with a DNA analysis and a projection of future climates inhabited by these species we reveal that upwards of 25% of the investigated species risk exposure to stressful temperatures by the end of the century and that
