Fluctuating asymmetry in spider‐hunting wasps as a possible indicator of stress in Brazilian Atlantic Forest landscapes Assimetria flutuante em vespas caçadoras de aranhas como possível indicador de estresse em paisagens da Mata Atlântica brasileira

open access: yesEcological Entomology, EarlyView.
Agricultural cover was positively associated with fluctuating asymmetry in Trypoxylon opacum, suggesting a possible increase in developmental instability in intensively managed landscapes. Wing size was positively related to forest cover and negatively related to agricultural cover, indicating that forested landscapes may promote larger body size ...

Avaliação da qualidade do compensado fenólico de Eucalyptus grandis [PDF]

open access: yesCiência Florestal, 2006
This research’s main objective is to evaluate the quality of Eucalyptus grandis’ manufactured plywood for external use. In order to make comparisons, plywood of Pinus taeda and Araucária angustifolia were also manufactured, using phenol-formaldehyde ...

Comparison of seedling growth among three co-occurring varieties of Araucaria angustifolia (Bertol.) Kuntze under greenhouse conditions

open access: yesActa Botânica Brasílica, 2010
Araucaria angustifolia (Bertol.) Kuntze is a tall, long-lived tree species, which grows as an emergent tree in the araucaria forests of southern Brazil. Four varieties have been described for this species, and three of them were selected for this study: "

Morphology and tructure of the pollen cone and pollen grain of the Araucaria species from Argentina [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The pollen cone and the pollen grain of the two Argentinean species of Araucaria are described with LM, SEM and TEM. Primordia of pollen cones are formed in April and May and reach maturity by mid-October in A. angustifolia (Bert.) O.

Low abundance of phytophagous nematodes under invasive exotic Pinus elliottii – enemy release and plant–soil feedbacks

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Summary According to the enemy release hypothesis (ERH), the fitness of exotic plants and their capacity to become invasive in their area of introduction may partly be attributable to the loss of their natural enemies. Invasive species may also benefit from modifying soil attributes and thereby creating a positive soil–plant feedback.

Matchmaking: a meta‐analysis of plant growth‐promoting microbial partnerships driving tree seedling performance in the Atlantic Forest biome

open access: yesRestoration Ecology, EarlyView.
Abstract Introduction The Brazilian Atlantic Forest (BAF) is a biodiversity hotspot, and inoculating native seedlings with plant growth‐promoting microorganisms (PGPMs) may enhance seedling vigor for forest restoration. Objectives We performed a meta‐analysis to evaluate the effects of PGPMs on BAF seedlings and identify strategies to optimize ...

QUALIDADE FISIOLÓGICA DE SEMENTES DE Araucaria angustifolia (Bertol.) Kuntze SUBMETIDAS A DIFERENTES CONDIÇÕES DE ARMAZENAMENTO E A ESCARIFICAÇÃO [PDF]

Improved method for isolation of coupled mitochondria of Araucaria angustifolia (Bert.) O. Kuntze

open access: yesBrazilian Archives of Biology and Technology, 2004
A method for the isolation of coupled mitochondria from the callus of Araucaria angustifolia is described for the first time. Mitochondria were isolated from embryogenic callus of A. angustifolia. They were metabolically active, able to sustain oxidative
