Three of nineteen Araucaria tree species from around the world produce large edible seeds. While composition is established for edible pinhão and piñones nuts from Brazil and Chile, respectively, the first detailed characterisation for the composition of edible Araucaria bidwillii (bunya nut) from Australia is provided. Almost half of the kernel weight

Resilience capacity of Araucaria araucana to extreme drought events
Dendrochronologia, 2022Ongoing climate change has induced modification in the frequency and intensity of extreme climatic events, with consequent impact on tree and forest growth resilience. Araucaria araucana is an endangered Patagonian conifer, which provides several ecosystem services to local human societies and plays fundamental ecological roles in natural communities ...

Araucaria Araucana thermoplastic starch nanocomposite films reinforced with nanocellulose
Physical Sciences Reviews, 2023Araucaria Araucana starch is a raw material with proven potential in obtaining biodegradable polymers. Plasticization improves the flexibility characteristics of starch-based films, however, they still tend to have low tensile strength and high ...

Araucaria araucana — Die ökologische Strategie einer Reliktkonifere
Flora, 1995Summary The reproduction and dispersal strategy of the relict conifer Araucaria araucana (M ol .) K och in the Villarrica National Park in Southern Chile is discussed. Mapping based on aerial photographs shows the distribution of the species and of the plant communities in which Araucaria grows.

Tree Physiology, 2022
Stored water in inner tissues influences the plant water economy, which might be particularly relevant for trees facing increasing dry conditions due to climate change. We studied the water storages in the inner bark and the sapwood of Araucaria araucana.

Rodent handling of Araucaria araucana seeds
Austral Ecology, 2012AbstractIn an intermast year of very low seed production, we studied seed handling in an Araucaria araucana (Araucariaceae) forest in Neuquén Province, Argentina. Rodents identified in 844 photographs from automatic cameras removed 589 seeds marked with small embedded magnets. Within 12 days of removal, 460 were recovered using a magnetic field locator;
