Biotechnological Potential of Araucaria angustifolia Pine Nuts Extract and the Cysteine Protease Inhibitor AaCI-2S

open access: yesPlants, 2020
Protease inhibitors are involved in the regulation of endogenous cysteine proteases during seed development and play a defensive role because of their ability to inhibit exogenous proteases such as those present in the digestive tracts of insects ...

Species richness, composition, and dominance of core and climate relicts of African miombo woodlands

open access: yesEcosphere, Volume 17, Issue 1, January 2026.
Abstract The miombo woodlands, which span about 10% of the African continent, are essential for the ecosystem services they provide. These woodlands are mainly dominated by the genera Julbernardia, Isoberlinia, and Brachystegia. However, there is limited understanding of how species dominance and richness change in relict sites, which are far removed ...

How Management Practices Shape the “Local Habitat Signature” That Modulates Bird Communities in Urban Green Spaces

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 58, Issue 1, January 2026.
Local scale factors, not just the broad urban gradient, are the key drivers of urban bird communities. Our multi‐scale study found that specific management practices, such as managing leaf litter depth or the presence of unmanaged tall grass, explained the largest portion of variation in bird composition.

Temporal Changes in Land Use Highlight the Vulnerability of Highland Grasslands in Protected Areas in Southern Brazil

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 58, Issue 1, January 2026.
Subtropical Highland Grasslands showed greater net conversion than Mixed Ombrophilous Forest across our study PAs. In one PA created to conserve Highland Grasslands, net grassland loss inside the PA exceeded loss in adjacent buffer zones during the study period.

Propagules removal in fragments of native forest and in reforested areas in an Araucaria Forest region of Paraná State
Remoção de propágulos em fragmento de floresta nativa e reflorestamentos numa região de Floresta Ombrófila Mista do estado do Paraná

open access: yesSemina: Ciências Biológicas e da Saúde, 2011
A question that has been discussed is the role that reforestations with exotic species in native fauna and several studies have shown that removal of propagules is lower in these environments. This study compared the removal rate of propagules (araucaria
