Phylogenetic reconciliation provides new insights into the evolutionary diversification of the glutamine synthetase gene family in seed plants. [PDF]

open access: yesFEBS J
Phylogenetic analyses of glutamine synthetase (GS) in seed plants revealed that all three major evolutionary lineages (GS2, GS1a, and GS1b) must have been present in the common ancestor, with GS2 being the first lineage to diverge. Unlike GS1b, GS1a and GS2 are usually single‐copy genes, even though they underwent duplications that resulted in ...

The Cinderella tree, Quillaja saponaria - A soap story. [PDF]

open access: yesPlants People Planet
Our current understanding of plants has been shaped by the entwining of different cultures. The Chilean soapbark tree, traditionally valued as a source of natural soap, was shown by serendipitous research in France in the 1900s to produce compounds that can boost the immune response to vaccines.

Selected Properties ofAraucaria AngustifoliaandAraucaria AraucanaSeed Protein

open access: yesInternational Journal of Food Properties, 2011
Araucaria angustifolia and Araucaria araucana are coniferous trees with large and nutritious seeds. The structure and nutritional properties of the proteins of these seeds were studied. About 70% of the proteins of the gametophyte were soluble in distilled water, although their solubility decreased drastically in raw seed flour.

Growth inhibition of an Araucaria angustifolia (Coniferopsida) fungal seed pathogen, Neofusicoccum parvum, by soil streptomycetes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Background: Araucariaceae are important forest trees of the southern hemisphere. Life expectancy of their seedlings can largely be reduced by fungal infections.

Purification and Characterization of Two Major Lectins from Araucaria brasiliensis syn. Araucaria angustifolia Seeds (Pinhão) [PDF]

open access: yesPlant Physiology, 1991
Two major lectins (lectin I and lectin II) were purified to homogeneity from the seeds of Araucaria brasiliensis (Gymnospermae). The purity of the lectins was confirmed by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, isoelectric focusing, and high performance liquid chromatography.

The expansion of Araucaria forest in the southern Brazilian highlands during the last 4000 years and its implications for the development of the Taquara/Itararé Tradition [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Reproduced with permission of the publisher. Copyright © Maney Publishing 2007.An examination of the late Holocene environmental and cultural sequences of the southern Brazilian highlands indicates that the colonisation of this region by the Taquara ...

CLONAL FORESTRY OF Araucaria angustifolia: PLANTS PRODUCED BY GRAFTING AND CUTTINGS CAN BE USED FOR WOOD PRODUCTION1

open access: yesRevista Árvore, 2017
Araucaria angustifolia (Brazilian Pine or Araucaria) is a potential native species to Brazilian forestry. However, a number of challenges and technical restraints still persist, making difficult its expansion as a species for forest plantations, among ...

Viability of recalcitrant Araucaria angustifolia seeds in storage and in a soil seed bank [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Forestry Research, 2019
Abstract Araucaria angustifolia (Bertol.) Kuntze is a representative species of the Mixed Ombrophilous Forest in the Atlantic Forest Biome of Brazil. The development of a germplasm conservation protocol for long-term seed bank storage is compromised for this species, as it is sensitive to desiccation. Furthermore, in situ establishment of

Anatomical and Physicochemical Characterization of the Araucaria angustifolia Seed Coat [PDF]

open access: yesFloresta e Ambiente, 2019
ABSTRACT Seed coat plays an important role in the embryo protection and seed germination. This study aimed to characterize the anatomical structure, histochemical and physicochemical aspects of the seed coat of Araucaria angustifolia Kuntze. Light and scanning microscopy usual procedures, and histochemical tests were used to describe and characterize ...

PHYSIOLOGICAL QUALITY OF Araucaria angustifolia (Bertol.) Kuntze SEEDS SUBMITTED TO DIFFERENT STORAGE CONDITIONS AND ESCARIFICATION

open access: yesCiência Florestal, 2010
The seeds of Araucaria angustifolia (Bertol.) Kuntze are recalcitrants and, therefore, they lose rapidly the viability after the harvest, limiting their use for nursery production of seedlings. This work was carried out to investigate the effects of cold
