Characterization of piñon seed (Araucaria araucana (Mol) K. Koch) and the isolated starch from the seed

Food Chemistry, 2008
Araucaria (Araucaria araucana) is a conifer tree, endemic of Chile. The seed of this tree, named pinon are composed principally of starch. In this work, pinon seeds and the starch isolated from them were evaluated. The pinon seeds are composed of starch (64%), dietary fibre (25%), total sugar (7%) and very low concentrations of phenolic compounds ...

Endogenous protein phosphorylation and casein kinase activity during seed development in Araucaria angustifolia

Phytochemistry, 2002
Protein kinases and phosphatases are responsible for several cellular events mediated by protein phosphorylation and dephosphorylation. Among these events are cell growth and differentiation and cellular metabolism. Casein kinase I (CKI) and casein kinase II (CKII) are involved in the phosphorylation of several substrates.

Structural and functional characterization of starches from Brazilian pine seeds (Araucaria angustifolia)

Food Hydrocolloids, 2017
Abstract Brazilian pine seeds (Araucaria angustifolia) or pinhao are popularly consumed in South America as a seasonal food. Pinhao of seven accessions were supplied by Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa/Forestry) germplasm bank. Starch was isolated from those seeds and characterized.

Seed crop size variation in the dominant South American conifer Araucaria angustifolia

Acta Oecologica, 2010
Abstract Temporal variation in seed crop size of the long-lived pioneer conifer Araucaria angustifolia was studied in subtropical South America. We evaluated the expectations that: 1) A. angustifolia presents highly variable seed production (mast seeding behavior); 2) A.

Refrigerated storage of Araucaria angustifolia (Bert.) O. Kuntze seeds

1999

Desiccation studies in relation to the storage of Araucaria seed

Annals of Applied Biology, 1984
SUMMARYRelationships between seed moisture content (fresh weight basis) and germination were examined for nine Araucaria species by desiccation under mild environmental conditions. The lowest safe moisture content, below which germination percentage begins to decline, was estimated in each case.
