Kinetics of dense plasma in the field of short laser pulses: A generalized approach

open access: yesMatter and Radiation at Extremes
A generalized kinetic model of atomic level populations in an optically dense plasma excited by laser pulses of arbitrary duration is formulated and studied. This model is based on a nonstationary expression for the probability of excitation of an atomic

On Applications of Semi-Analytical Methods of Contact Mechanics

open access: yesFrontiers in Mechanical Engineering, 2020
This paper is concerned with possible applications of semi-analytical methods of frictional contact mechanics. The semi-analytical solutions, such as the Method of Memory Diagrams, enable the load-displacement relationship for contact of two axisymmetric

Historical Foundation and Practical Guideline for Ferroelectric Switching Kinetic Studies

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The P and U pulses in the conventional PUND measurements are not identical because of the interplay between switching current and the measurement circuit components. This circuit effect can lead to a shift in polarization transients and misinterpreted physics in the switching kinetics.

Templated‐Construction of Hollow MoS2 Architectures with Improved Photoresponses

open access: yesAdvanced Science, 2020
Despite the outstanding optoelectronic properties of MoS2 and its analogues, synthesis of such materials with desired features including fewer layers, arbitrary hollow structures, and particularly specifically customized morphologies, via inorganic ...

Chiral Phase Change Nanomaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates reversible, non‐volatile phase transitions in chiral Ge2${\rm Ge}_2$Sb2${\rm Sb}_2$Te5${\rm Te}_5$ (GST) nanohelices for high‐speed optical modulation of chirality and dynamic control of the state of polarization (SOP). The chiral nanostructures are fabricated using a highly directional, wafer‐scale physical vapor deposition ...

Optical Signature of Moiré Superlattices Formed by Twisted SrTiO3 Membranes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We discover optical signatures from bonded interfaces in twisted SrTiO3 moiré superlattices, including low‐frequency Raman vibrational modes and strong second‐harmonic generation, consistent with strong interlayer coupling inferred from cross‐sectional electron microscopy and ab initio calculations. ABSTRACT Moiré superlattices formed at the interfaces

Polarization‐Dependent Synaptic‐Like Electro‐Optical Response in Ferroelectric Nematic Liquid Crystals

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Ferroelectric nematic liquid crystals (FNLCs) offer fast, tunable polarization and low‐voltage operation but suffer from poor polarization retention at zero field. Semiconductor‐modified FNLCs enhance polarization retention and exhibit short‐ and long‐term electro‐optical responses, while also supporting spike‐type signal integrations.

Investigation of liquid sloshing characteristics in tanks using an OpenFOAM solver with arbitrary excitation

open access: yesAIP Advances
A multiphase flow solver with mesh motion is typically used for simulations of liquid sloshing in containers, such as those in spacecraft, aircraft, and ships.

Patterned Rydberg excitation and ionization with a spatial light modulator

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2015
We demonstrate the ability to excite atoms at well-defined, programmable locations in a magneto-optical trap, either to the continuum (ionization), or to a Rydberg state.

Tailored Diketopyrrolopyrrole Derivatives for Efficient Deep‐Red Organic Lasers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Tailored diketopyrrolopyrrole derivatives exhibit high stable amplified spontaneous emission with single or dual bands. Incorporated into distributed‐feedback lasers based on one‐ and two‐dimensional dichromated‐gelatin diffractive gratings, these materials provide a robust, flexible platform for integrated organic deep‐red light sources. ABSTRACT Deep‐
