[PDF]
Hardwood plantations constitute a good opportunity to intensify the production of high-quality timber. However, in the absence of short-term investment returns, their economic benefits seem uncertain for landowners. Intercropping systems, which are stimulating interest in many temperate countries, could constitute an innovative way to increase the use

Many boreal forests of eastern Canada progress towards an irregular structure in the decades following the last stand‐replacing fire. A substantial part of these early‐successional forests may be suitable for alternatives to even‐aged silviculture that better maintains habitats and functions of preindustrial boreal forests.

Severe drought increasingly threatens the resilience of forest biomes worldwide. Using a tree‐ring database from Canadian forests, encompassing 40,147 trees across 4558 plots and 23 species, we analyzed temporal and spatial patterns of drought resilience.

Abstract Several species of Lepidoptera with caterpillars bearing urticating hairs are increasing their range in metropolitan France from year to year, such as the pine processionary (Thaumetopoea pityocampa Denis et Schiffermüller 1775) whose presence was historically limited to the south of France, and which is gradually being observed in the north ...

ABSTRACT Wild chimpanzees drum on tree buttresses during dominance displays and travel, generating low‐frequency sounds that are audible over distances of more than 1 km. Western chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes verus) in the Nimba Mountains of Guinea selectively choose trees and buttresses when drumming, potentially based on their resonant properties ...

A model predicting circumference growth of individual trees has been developed for mixed irregular stands dominated by Fagussilvatica L. in southeastern Belgium. This model integrates simultaneously tree, stand, and growing site characteristics without considering distances between individual trees.
