Mechanical and Microstructural Evaluation of DMAG Welding of Structural Steel

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering, 2015
Double channel torch, which allows concentric flow of two different shielding gases, was designed and manufactured in order to pursue double channel torch gas metal arc welding of unalloyed structural steel S235JR (EN 10025-2) with fourteen passes ...

A Comparative Study of Directed Energy Deposition‐Arc and Casting: Enhancing Mechanical and Thermal Properties of Hot‐Work Tool Steels

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
The study investigates the influence of DED‐Arc/M versus casting on the microstructure and material properties of X40CrMoV5‐1 (AISI H13) hot‐work tool steel. DED‐Arc/M yields finer microstructures, superior mechanical strength, and ductility, but slightly reduced thermal conductivity.

Characterization of magnetically impelled arc butt welded T11 tubes for high pressure applications

open access: yesDefence Technology, 2015
Magnetically impelled arc butt (MIAB) welding is a pressure welding process used for joining of pipes and tubes with an external magnetic field affecting arc rotation along the tube circumference. In this work, MIAB welding of low alloy steel (T11) tubes

Multifaceted Behavior and Functional Versatility of Ferritic Stainless Steels, Part I: Applications and Processing, a Review

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
This review investigates the processing‐microstructure‐property relationships in ferritic stainless steels (FSSs). It highlights advances in deformation behavior, heat treatments, surface modifications, and alloying effects. Theoretical models, including Johnson‐Mehl‐Avrami‐Kolmogorov, Arrhenius, nucleation theory, and diffusion theories, are discussed

Minimization of Porosity in E11018‐G Low‐Alloyed Steel Processed by Laser Powder Directed Energy Deposition

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
The processability of the E11018‐G by laser powder directed energy deposition (LP‐DED) is investigated. The effects of powder moisture, ambient humidity, and laser remelting on LP‐DED parts’ porosity are shown. A strong influence of the atomizing gas is observed.

Submerged arc welding of heavy plate [PDF]

open access: yes, 1972
The submerged arc process is particularly suitable for heavy plate welding because of its ability to combine very high deposit rates along with excellent quality. It does these things without the smoke and spatter often accompanying other processes.

Exploiting Residual Elements Arising from Scrap Steel in Future Sustainable Steel Alloy Design

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
Herein, the effects of residual elements Cu and Sn on grain growth, recrystallization, and phase transformation in C–Mn steel are summarized, and a case study is presented on how the presence of residual elements can be exploited to reduce deliberate Nb microalloying while achieving the same grain size control and strength during thermomechanical ...
