On optimal form of arches

Journal of the Franklin Institute, 1976
Abstract This paper considers the problem of optimal shaping of arches subjected to general loading. The investigation comprises the search for the optimum centerline form as well as the optimum area distribution along the arch. As objective function and constraints, the appropriate combinations of arch thrust, material volume, total arc length, and ...

Dental arch form in the cercopithecidae

Primates, 1984
The dental arches of the major genera of Old World monkeys (superfamily Cercopithecoidea) were studied by morphometric techniques. Bicanine and bimolar breadths and arch lengths were ascertained for maxillary and mandibular arches. This data was then subjected to a variety of statistical tests.

A new concept of anatomic lingual arch form

American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, 2010
The aim of this study was to describe a natural and anatomic lingual arch form obtained from subjects with normal occlusion that could be used, with other criteria, in the construction of personalized setups for the lingual straight-wire technique. The study sample comprised 58 pairs of dental casts of the arches of 58 southern Europeans (37 women, 21 ...

A metrical study of dental arch form

Journal of Dentistry, 1978
Accurate metrical descriptions of the dental arches from different ethnic groups were obtained by recording two-dimensional coordinates of datum points defined by tooth centres, contact points and buccal and lingual crown convexities. Multivariate statistical analyses of these coordinate data showed discrimination between the various dental arches that

Evaluation of arch forms depending on the angle classification

International Orthodontics, 2016
It is generally accepted that each individual has his or her own dental arch form. However, during orthodontic treatment, industrially preshaped archwires are widely used. The resulting use of the same arch form for all malocclusions may compromise occlusal stability after orthodontic treatment. To determine the average dental arch form of a non ...

Changes in arch form and dimensions of cleft patients

American Journal of Orthodontics, 1971
Abstract The photocopy method of cast analysis permits a better understanding of the dimensional changes occurring during various stages of arch development. The statistical evaluation of the measurements described, and the changes in arch dimension as a result of growth and surgery gave us a better understanding of cleft patients.

Dumbbell-formed lipomas under the zygomatic arch

Journal of Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery, 2008
Two cases of dumbbell-shaped lipoma under the zygomatic arch and the therapeutic courses are described. Both tumours were present in the buccal and temporal processes and the isthmus, which showed dumbbell forms occupying temporal and infratemporal fossae on coronal MR images.

Analysis of change in arch form with premolar expansion

American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, 1998
The arch forms of 38 cases (53 nonextraction and 23 extraction arches) in which expansion, while maintaining arch form, was the objective of the practitioner, were analyzed before treatment, after treatment, and an average of 6 to 8 years after retention. The cubic spline was used to fit a curve representing arch form.

Effect of arch form on the fabrication of working archwires

American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, 2010
Previous studies have shown that most practitioners plan to maintain intercanine and intermolar widths during orthodontic treatment with fixed appliances. The aim of this study was to determine whether this was put into practice by clinicians during the latter stages of orthodontic treatment with fixed appliances. This 2-part investigation was a ...

Non-human primate dental arch form

Cells Tissues Organs, 1977
Multivariate statistical analysis, based upon a number of dimensions, showed significant contrasts in dental arch form between four primate groups, which was difficult to identify from subjective visual inspection. Furthermore, analysis of dental arch size was shown to differ from dental arch shape, although whether this reflected predominantly genetic
