On the resolvent condition in the Kreiss matrix theorem [PDF]

open access: yes
The Kreiss Matrix Theorem asserts the uniform equivalence over all N x N matrices of power boundedness and a certain resolvent estimate. It is shown that the ratio of the constants in these two conditions grows linearly with N, and the optimal ...

The effect of a lip bumper on lower dental arch dimensions and tooth positions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The effect of a lip bumper on the dimensions of the lower dental arch and on the inclination of the incisors and first molars was studied in 40 children, aged 9-12 years. The children wore their lip bumper full time for 7-10 months.

Universal Electronic‐Structure Relationship Governing Intrinsic Magnetic Properties in Permanent Magnets

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Permanent magnets derive their extraordinary strength from deep, universal electronic‐structure principles that control magnetization, anisotropy, and intrinsic performance. This work uncovers those governing rules, examines modern modeling and AI‐driven discovery methods, identifies critical bottlenecks, and reveals electronic fingerprints shared ...

Morphology of Dorsal Venous Arch of Hand: A Cadaveric Study

open access: yesJournal of College of Medical Sciences-Nepal, 2019
Background: Venous network of hand is superficially placed and is easy to trace for clinical purposes. Ce-phalic vein on lateral aspect and basilic vein on medial aspect of the hand are clinically important for inva-sive and surgical procedures. Thus the

MAGTWIST: A Magnetically‐Driven Rotary Actuator Using a Traveling‐Wave With Integrated Stiffness Tunability

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
MAGTWIST: A compact magnetic rotary actuator, enabling smooth, stepless rotation, and on‐demand locking. Inspired by peristalsis, a soft polymer belt generates a traveling‐wave, enabling 270° rotation when heated. Cooling stiffens the belt, locking it in position and enabling it to withstand high loads.

Topological interface engineering and defect crossing in ultracold atomic gases

open access: yes, 2012
We propose an experimentally feasible scheme for topological interface engineering and show how it can be used for studies of dynamics of topologically nontrivial interfaces and perforation of defects and textures across such interfaces. The method makes

External Reflection From Two‐Photon Laser‐Printed Micromirrors Enables Photomechanical Actuation at a 90° Incident Angle

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Light reflectance increases along incidence angle and transmittance significantly drops around 90‐degree incidence angle. Here, we report two‐photon laser printed micro mirrors that redirect the skimming light beam into normal light absorption. Using this technique, light‐driven micro walkers and grippers are demonstrated by using grazing incidence ...

The Relationship of Various Arch Forms and Cortical Bone Thickness

open access: yesFrontiers in Dentistry, 2011
Objective: Implants are being used in orthodontics as a reliable mode of anchorage. Among other factors, the cortical bone thickness plays a major role in determining the stability of these implants.
