2002Abstract The transformation in the religious identity of Svetambara Jains in the 19th century led to increasing demands for reform. Reforms meant abolishing boundaries that divided Jains into Svetambaras and Digambaras, and establishing Jainism as an Indian religion that preserved the valuable aspects of ancient Indian culture.
