The Archean ocean

Abstract Little land mass emerged during the Archean. Most sediments were deposited in the oceans. Cherts, which are siliceous precipitates, were abundant and reflect the active dissolution of the oceanic crust by hydrothermal fluids. These fluids also carried dissolved iron.
