Archimedean and continuity

Mathematical Social Sciences, 2007
Abstract Let ≽ be a complete and transitive binary relation on the set of all lotteries on finite sets of prizes. Then ≽ is mixture continuous if and only if it satisfies the Archimedean axiom and a condition called local mixture dominance.

ON ARCHIMEDEAN LINK COMPLEMENTS

Journal of Knot Theory and Its Ramifications, 2002
We study a subclass of alternating links for which the complete hyperbolic metric can be realised directly by pairwise identification of faces of two ideal hyperbolic polyhedra. Our main result is a characterization of these links: essentially, the corresponding polyhedra are exactly the Archimedean solids with trivalent vertices. Furthermore, we show

Archimedean Screws

The Mathematical Gazette, 1957
A helicoid is the surface generated by a curve which is simultane rotated about a fixed axis and translated in the direction of the axis w velocity proportional to the angular velocity of rotation.[1] An Archime Screw [2] is strictly a finite helicoid in which the generating curve is c (and ...

On topological extensions of Archimedean and non-Archimedean rings

P-Adic Numbers, Ultrametric Analysis, and Applications, 2011
The authors present a list of definitions and results about extending a ring without providing any proofs to their claims. The cases of a topological ring and a topological ring with topology given by an ultra-norm, are considered in the same way without any proofs.

Diffusion on Archimedean lattices

Physical Review E, 2006
We consider random diffusive motion of classical particles over the edges of Archimedean lattices. The diffusion coefficient is obtained by using periodic orbit theory. We also study deterministic motion over a honeycomb lattice without the possibility for an immediate return to the preceding node, controlled by a tent map with the golden ratio slope ...

ARCHIMEDEAN METAETHICS DEFENDED

Metaphilosophy, 2008
Abstract:We sometimes say our moral claims are “objectively true,” or are “right, even if nobody believes it.” These additional claims are often taken to be staking out metaethical positions, representative of a certain kind of theorizing about morality that “steps outside” the practice in order to comment on its status.

On archimedean MV-algebras

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal, 1998
An \(MV\)-algebra \(\mathcal A\) constructed by means of an abelian lattice ordered group \(G\) with a strong unit (\(G\) is uniquely determined by \(\mathcal A\)) is called archimedean (or semisimple) if \(G\) is archimedean. A non-empty subset \(\{a_j\mid j\in J\}\) of \(\mathcal A\) is said to be orthogonal if \(a_i\wedge a_j=0\) for all distinct ...
