The arching effect in rubber–sand mixtures
Geosynthetics International, 2020Arching effect in geomaterial refers to the stress redistribution as a result of induced displacements. It is most likely to occur in different situations such as retaining walls, piled foundations, tunnelling, and so on. The arching effects that occur in rubber–sand layers are examined in this paper.

The effects of Fränkel II treatment on arch width and arch perimeter
American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, 1987Changes in dental arch width and total arch perimeter in 24 Class II, Division 1 patients treated with the Fränkel II appliance were compared with changes in an untreated control group. Measurements were made on pretreatment and posttreatment plaster casts at three points on each of four maxillary and four mandibular teeth.

ARCH Effects and Trading Volume
SSRN Electronic Journal, 2005Studies that fit volume-augmented GARCH models often find support for the hypothesis that trading volume explains ARCH effects in daily stock returns. We show that this finding is due to an unrecognized constraint imposed by the GARCH specification used for the analysis.

Model Test on the Soil Arching Effect of Pile-Supported Embankments Using Transparent Soil
, 2021Pile-supported embankments have been widely used in subgrade engineering for highways and high-speed railways. Soil arching has an important effect on the deformation characteristics of pile-supported embankments.

Arching effect model for particle size segregation
Physical Review Letters, 1993Starting from 2D experimental observations and using topological arguments, we search for the set of stable positions when a large disk is raised step by step among a 2D array of small monodisperse disks. We show and confirm experimentally that larger disks should move upward continuously via the arching effect whereas smaller disks may only climb up ...
