By dawn or dusk—how circadian timing rewrites bacterial infection outcomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The circadian clock shapes immune function, yet its influence on infection outcomes is only beginning to be understood. This review highlights how circadian timing alters host responses to the bacterial pathogens Salmonella enterica, Listeria monocytogenes, and Streptococcus pneumoniae revealing that the effectiveness of immune defense depends not only

L’architecture comme paradigme philosophique dans le De Opificio de Philon d’Alexandrie (OPIF. 17-22) [PDF]

open access: yesDiversitate si Identitate Culturala in Europa, 2017
In this study dedicaded to the architect’s paradigm in the De Opificio of Philo of Alexandria (Opif. 17-22), we show how, using the technic’s schematism (creation of an ideal city in the head of a king, his geometrical construction and his realisation ...

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Study of plasma wakefield acceleration mechanism for emittance dominated regimes via hybrid and pic simulations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Electron plasma wakefield acceleration (PWFA) mechanism is a promising non conventional acceleration scheme. Nonetheless further investigation is still needed to fully uncover the instability mechanisms so to mitigate them and make PWFA an effective ...

Structural insights into lacto‐N‐biose I recognition by a family 32 carbohydrate‐binding module from Bifidobacterium bifidum

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bifidobacterium bifidum establishes symbiosis with infants by metabolizing lacto‐N‐biose I (LNB) from human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs). The extracellular multidomain enzyme LnbB drives this process, releasing LNB via its catalytic glycoside hydrolase family 20 (GH20) lacto‐N‐biosidase domain.

Crosstalk between the ribosome quality control‐associated E3 ubiquitin ligases LTN1 and RNF10

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of the E3 ligase LTN1, the ubiquitin‐like modifier UFM1, or the deubiquitinating enzyme UFSP2 disrupts endoplasmic reticulum–ribosome quality control (ER‐RQC), a pathway that removes stalled ribosomes and faulty proteins. This disruption may trigger a compensatory response to ER‐RQC defects, including increased expression of the E3 ligase RNF10 ...

Heinz Isler: shells for two churches [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
This paper describes the concept, design and realisation of two churches where Heinz Isler (1926-2009) was responsible for the structural design and in one case also for the architectural concept. One example, the Heilig Geist Kirche (Holy Spirit Church)

Peptide‐based ligand antagonists block a Vibrio cholerae adhesin

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The structure of a peptide‐binding domain of the Vibrio cholerae adhesin FrhA was solved by X‐ray crystallography, revealing how the inhibitory peptide AGYTD binds tightly at its Ca2+‐coordinated pocket. Structure‐guided design incorporating D‐amino acids enhanced binding affinity, providing a foundation for developing anti‐adhesion therapeutics ...

La nature artistique du travail de l’architecte dans les débats professionnels : le cas de la Société des architectes modernes (1922-1946)

open access: yesPerspective
Through their declarations and practice during the interwar period, the members of the Société des Architectes Modernes (Modern Architects Society, SAM) developed a discourse on the similarity between architectural and artistic labour. The SAM architects,
