Software architecture and software architecture practices become increasingly important for information systems since they enable reasoning on the design of the system. The concept of architectural knowledge, i.e. architectural design decisions and the resulting design, plays a pivotal role in architecture. In order to get the most out of architectural

Architecting a software architect
2004 IEEE Aerospace Conference Proceedings (IEEE Cat. No.04TH8720), 2004Software architecture is a relatively new software engineering discipline that has emerged as a response to the growing complexity of software systems and the problems these systems attempt to solve. Software is becoming the dominant component of most aerospace systems and it is necessary for the aerospace software development community to develop new ...

Interactions, 2016
Interaction design is increasingly about embedding interactive technologies in our built environment; architecture is increasingly about the use of interactive technologies to reimagine and dynamically repurpose our built environment. This forum focuses on this intersection of interaction and architecture.

Big Architect, Little Architect
2021First came the primordial soup. Thousands of relatively simple single-celled web sites appeared on the scene, and each one was quickly claimed by a multi-functional organism called a “webmaster.” A symbiotic relationship quickly became apparent. Webmaster fed web site. Web site got bigger and more important. So did the role of the webmaster.

Working with Architects: Working with Architects
Architectural Design, 2019AbstractThe small‐scale London development and investment company Baylight Properties encourages a nimble spatial and material dialogue away from the normal slick representation of fait‐accompli solutions. Its founder, architect Crispin Kelly, describes how this produces highly particular architecture born out of exploration and mutual respect – such ...

Abstract TA builds on the state of mind (SoM) framework to offer the novelty-seeking model (NSM). The model relates curiosity to creativity but this commentary focuses on creativity: (i) It assesses the SoM + NSM model of creativity-in-the-lab, showing that the focus on semantic networks is inadequate.

I began reading Mahbub Rashid's paper with great anticipation. After all, the title promised something important: a model linking face-to-face interaction among clinicians to hospital design. As a practicing healthcare architect who strives to enhance this interaction, I am all too familiar with statistics, cited by Rashid, that make faulty ...

When we grow a software-intensive system, we start with something that is deeply technical, something that is constrained by the laws of physics and the realities of information theory. We then shape it into something that is as invisible as it can be.
