Lead as an Architectural Sound Barrier [PDF]
Very high values of sound-transmission loss can be provided by lead-backed building materials at moderate costs. To achieve this requires optimizing the thickness of the building material—gypsum board, plywood, hardboard, or sheet metal—in relation to panel weight.
