Structural Intuition and Creative Play: An Architectural Perspective to Shell Pedagogies [PDF]
The notions of structural intuition and creative play had been raised by particular structural artists (Billington, 1983 [1]). Professor Pier Luigi Nervi expressed the importance of Structural Intuition in his 1965 Elliot Norton Lectures at Harvard ...

Vacuum‐based deposition is promising for perovskite solar cells to be successfully commercialized. However, co‐evaporation, the most common vapor phase deposition technique, suffers from very low deposition rates. In this work, we reveal that high deposition rates can lead to carbon flakes depositing into the perovskite absorber layers due to material ...

The XX century architectural heritage in the Marche region. The Masters’ drawings and designs.
In the history of architecture, Marche is often considered as a region that did not take part in the big developments of national architecture. Hence it’s meaningful to examine the architectonic events of the Region in the XX century and how much the Marche region has been the object of work by the great masters of the past century.

Tracking decision-making during architectural design [PDF]
There is a powerful cocktail of circumstances governing the way decisions are made during the architectural design process of a building project. There is considerable potential for misunderstandings, inappropriate changes, change which give rise to ...

Controlled laser‐drilling of embedded HfO2 membranes creates three layer nanopores with Gaussian‐shaped cavities sculptured in the supporting layers. These embedded solid‐state nanopores slow DNA translocation by 12‐fold compared to SiNx pores, enabling high‐resolution, label‐free detection of short DNAs, RNAs, and proteins.

The changing perception in the artefacts used in the design practice through BIM adoption [PDF]
When CAD (Computer Aided Design) was generally adopted in the early 1990’s, the hand drawn process was replaced with the CAD drawing but the nature of the artefacts / deliverables and the exchanges of information between disciplines remained ...

Electroactive Liquid Crystal Elastomers as Soft Actuators
Electroactive liquid crystal elastomers (eLCEs) can be actuated via electromechanical, electrochemical, or electrothermal effects. a) Electromechanical effects include Maxwell stress, electrostriction, and the electroclinic effect. b) Electrochemical effects arise from electrode redox reactions.
