Architecture and Engineering [PDF]
The current Special Issue is addressed to architects and engineers. Design and research are areas connecting their activities. A review of 17 published articles confirms the fact that the interface between architecture and engineering is multidimensional. The ways of finding points of contact between the two industries are highlighted. This is favoured

Mechanically reinforced biotubes for arterial replacement and arteriovenous grafting inspired by architectural engineering. [PDF]
There is a lack in clinically-suitable vascular grafts. Biotubes, prepared using in vivo tissue engineering, show potential for vascular regeneration. However, their mechanical strength is typically poor.

On the Architectural Engineering Competences in Architectural Design:MSc in Engineering with Specialization in Architecture [PDF]
In 1997 a new education in Architecture & Design at Department of Architecture and Design, Aalborg University was started with 50 students. During the recent years this number has increased to approximately 100 new students each year, i.e. approximately 500 students are following the 3 years bachelor (BSc) and the 2 years master (MSc) programme ...

Inverse opal ceria–zirconia: architectural engineering for heterogeneous catalysis [PDF]
The application of inverse opal structured materials is extended to the ceria–zirconia (Ce_(0.5)Zr_(0.5)O_2) system and the significance of material architecture on heterogeneous catalysis, specifically, chemical oxidation, is ...

Reverse engineering: the architecture of biological networks
We adopt a control theory approach to reverse engineer the complexity of a known system--the bacterial heat shock response. Using a computational dynamic model, we explore the organization of the heat shock system and elucidate its various regulation strategies. We show that these strategies are behind much of the complexity of the network.
