A GEOSS Architecture Implementation Pilot Project for Disasters in Chile

2016
On May 22, 1960, a 9.5-magnitude earthquake, the largest ever recorded, occurred off the coast of Chile. On September 16, 2015 Chile was again struck by a 8.3-moment magnitude earthquake. In 2013, 22 million people worldwide were displaced due to natural disaster events (IDMC, 2014).

Architecture, Kinematics, and Tectonic Evolution of the Principal Cordillera of the Andes in Central Chile (∼33.5°S): Insights From Detrital Zircon U‐Pb Geochronology and Seismotectonics Implications

Tectonics, 2021
We assess the role of inherited structures on the Meso‐Cenozoic tectonic evolution of the main Andean Cordillera in central Chile (33°30′S‐34°S). Based on extensive field mapping, U‐Pb geochronology and palinspastic restorations along the Yeso and Volcán

Reservoir architecture model and heat transfer modes in the El Tatio-La Torta geothermal system, Central Andes of northern Chile

Geothermics, 2021
In this work, we present an update for the conceptual model of the El Tatio-La Torta geothermal system, one of the most studied geothermal fields in the Central Andes of South America. Using the structural model reported by Veloso et al.

Ritual stone‐built architecture and shell midden foundation: A semisubterranean structure in hyperarid Atacama Desert coast, Northern Chile

Geoarchaeology, 2021
Hunter‐gatherer architectural practices are one of the main sources of data to understand the complex land use of these societies. In the hyperarid Atacama Desert coast (Northern Chile), hunter‐gatherers‐fishers developed standardized stone‐built ...

School architecture, global perspectives, and local realities: the cases of Chile and Portugal in the twentieth century

Paedagogica Historica, 2021
This paper discusses the duality between global perspectives and local realities that have influenced the design of the school architecture by examining and comparing state school projects in two geographically distant countries: Chile and Portugal.

Evolution of deep-water stratigraphic architecture, Magallanes Basin, Chile

Marine and Petroleum Geology, 2011
Abstract The ˜4000 m thick and ∼20 Myr deep-water sedimentary fill of the Upper Cretaceous Magallanes Basin was deposited in three major phases, each with contrasting stratigraphic architecture: (1) the oldest deep-water formation (Punta Barrosa Formation) comprises tabular to slightly lenticular packages of interbedded sandy turbidites, slurry-flow ...

Lateral and temporal variations of a multi-phase coarse-grained submarine slope channel system, Upper Cretaceous Cerro Toro Formation, southern Chile

Journal of Sedimentary Research, 2023
Understanding variations in the sedimentary processes and resulting stratigraphic architecture in submarine channel systems is essential for characterizing sediment bypass and sedimentary facies distribution on submarine slopes.

Recommendations for the Conservation of Earthen Architectural Heritage in Chile

Advanced Materials Research, 2010
Developing earthen architecture conservation in Chile is a widespread challenge present in different organizations in our country, although a clear legislation has not been defined in order to preserve this important legacy. An extended look throughout the country allows us to understand the state of the art of restoration in Chile.
