Crucial parameters for precise copy number variation detection in formalin‐fixed paraffin‐embedded solid cancer samples

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study shows that copy number variations (CNVs) can be reliably detected in formalin‐fixed paraffin‐embedded (FFPE) solid cancer samples using ultra‐low‐pass whole‐genome sequencing, provided that key (pre)‐analytical parameters are optimized.

Image Classification for Digital Archive Management

open access: yes, 2005
As tools and systems for producing and disseminating image data have improved significantly in recent years, the volume of digital images has grown rapidly. An efficient mechanism for managing such images in a digital archive system is therefore needed. In this study, we propose an image classification technique that meets this need.

RIPK4 function interferes with melanoma cell adhesion and metastasis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RIPK4 promotes melanoma growth and spread. RIPK4 levels increase as skin lesions progress to melanoma. CRISPR/Cas9‐mediated deletion of RIPK4 causes melanoma cells to form less compact spheroids, reduces their migratory and invasive abilities and limits tumour growth and dissemination in mouse models.

Identifying the 3FHL Catalog. I. Archival Swift Observations and Source Classification [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2019
Abstract We present the results of an identification campaign of unassociated sources from the Fermi Large Area Telescope 3FHL catalog. Out of 200 unidentified sources, we selected 110 sources for which archival Swift-XRT observations were available, 52 of which were found to have exactly one X-ray counterpart within the 3FHL 95 ...

Using semantic indexing to improve searching performance in web archives [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The sheer volume of electronic documents being published on the Web can be overwhelming for users if the searching aspect is not properly addressed. This problem is particularly acute inside archives and repositories containing large collections of web ...

Evolutionary dynamics of the chloroplast genome in Daphne (Thymelaeaceae): comparative analysis with related genera and insights into phylogenetics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Comparative analysis of chloroplast genomes from 14 genera of Thymelaeaceae revealed variation in gene content, ranging from 128 to 142 genes, primarily influenced by IR expansion/contraction events and pseudogenization of ndhF, ndhI, and ndhG. Two large inversions were detected within the large single‐copy region, including a synapomorphic inversion ...

KLK7 overexpression promotes an aggressive phenotype and facilitates peritoneal dissemination in colorectal cancer cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
KLK7, a tissue kallikrein‐related peptidase, is elevated in advanced colorectal cancer and associated with shorter survival. High KLK7 levels in ascites correlate with peritoneal metastasis. In mice, KLK7 overexpression increases metastasis. In vitro, KLK7 enhances cancer cell proliferation, migration, adhesion, and spheroid formation, driving ...

Dihydroorotate dehydrogenase (DHODH) regulates trophoblast syncytialization through organelle stress–induced cellular senescence

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The inhibition of mitochondrial dihydroorotate dehydrogenase (DHODH) impairs syncytialization and induces cellular senescence via mitochondrial and endoplasmic reticulum stress in human trophoblast stem cells, elevating sFlt1/PlGF levels, a hallmark of placental dysfunction in hypertensive disorders of pregnancy.
