Positive relationships among aboveground biomass, tree species diversity, and urban greening management in tropical coastal city of Haikou. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol, 2021
We investigated the relationship between tree species diversity and aboveground biomass using multiple regression, which revealed significant relationships across all five types of land uses. Aboveground biomass in green spaces was also correlated with anthropogenic factors, especially time since urban development, or site age, annual maintenance ...

Vegetation structure and ground cover attributes describe the occurrence of a newly discovered carnivorous marsupial on the Tweed Shield Volcano caldera, the endangered black-tailed dusky antechinus (Antechinus arktos). [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol, 2020
The black‐tailed dusky antechinus (Antechinus arktos) is a recently discovered, endangered carnivorous marsupial mammal endemic to the border between Queensland and New South Wales in eastern Australia. The species' preference for cool, high‐altitude habitats makes it particularly vulnerable to a shifting climate.

Host plant recognition by two odorant‐binding proteins in Rhynchophorus ferrugineus (Coleoptera: Curculionidae)

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 79, Issue 11, Page 4521-4534, November 2023., 2023
Rhynchophorus ferrugineus odorant binding protein 8 and odorant binding protein 11 are validated to be involved in the perception of eight host plant volatiles and aggregation pheromone ferrugineol. Abstract BACKGROUND Rhynchophorus ferrugineus, the red palm weevil (RPW), is a key pest that attacks many economically important palm species and that has ...

Pest categorisation of Aonidiella orientalis

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 20, Issue 11, November 2022., 2022
Abstract The EFSA Panel on Plant Health performed a pest categorisation of Aonidiella orientalis (Hemiptera: Diaspididae), the oriental scale, for the EU. A. orientalis is a species mostly occurring in tropical and subtropical areas. It is not listed in Annex II of Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2019/2072.

Commodity risk assessment of Acer palmatum plants grafted on Acer davidii from China

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 20, Issue 5, May 2022., 2022
Abstract The European Commission requested the EFSA Panel on Plant Health to prepare and deliver risk assessments for commodities listed in Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2018/2019 as ‘High risk plants, plant products and other objects’. This Scientific Opinion covers plant health risks posed by 2‐year‐old bare rooted plants for planting of ...

Drone‐based thermal remote sensing provides an effective new tool for monitoring the abundance of roosting fruit bats

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, Volume 7, Issue 3, Page 461-474, September 2021., 2021
Fruit bats are globally threatened, yet important ecosystem engineers. Population monitoring is difficult, traditionally with significant error. This study shows that the number of flying‐foxes roosting in a colony can be determined by counting individuals in thermal orthomosaics either manually or using semi‐automated methods.

Non‐native palms (Arecaceae) as generators of novel ecosystems: A global assessment

open access: yesDiversity and Distributions, Volume 26, Issue 11, Page 1523-1538, Novemeber 2020., 2020
Abstract Aims Novel ecosystems are self‐maintaining ecosystems that support species assemblages without historical precedent. Despite much interest and controversy around novel ecosystems, it remains poorly understood how they are generated, what their capacity to support biodiversity is and what the implications for society are. Here, we address these

Effect of Growth Regulators on Seed Germination of Archontophoenix alexandrae1

open access: yesHortScience, 1979
Abstract Seed germination of Alexandra palm [Archontophoenix alexandrae (F. J. Muell,) H. Wendl & Drude] was accelerated by presoaking for 24 or 72 hours in water, and further accelerated by a 72 hour treatment with 100 or 1000 ppm, gibberellic acid (GA), but not with benzyladenine (BA) or naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA).
