Genetics of Growth of Juvenile Arctic Char
Transactions of the American Fisheries Society, 1994Abstract Full-sib and half-sib families were produced by factorial matings within a strain of Arctic char Salvelinus alpinus. Genetic parameters were estimated for growth characters at 12 and 18 months age and for survival up to 7 months of age. Heritabilities for weight and length ranged between 0.13 and 0.17.

Effect of androgens on seawater adaptation in Arctic char, Salvelinus alpinus
Fish Physiology and Biochemistry, 1993Sexually immature two-year old Arctic char (Salvelinus alpinus) were implanted with Silastic capsules containing testosterone or 11-ketoandrostenedione in early spring. Seawater adaptability of the hormone-treated and sham-operated fish was tested periodically from May to August using a 48h seawater challenge test with 25‰ seawater.

Journal of the Fisheries Research Board of Canada, 1973The routine of resting oxygen consumption of Arctic char (Salvelinus alpinus) from a high arctic lake (74°42′N) was measured at 2 (acclimated) and 6 C (unacclimated). The oxygen uptake versus wet weight relation at 2 C was: Log O2 uptake = 0.7316 Log weight – 1.0944.

An Arctic char observed in a glacial Spitsbergen river
Polar Record, 2014ABSTRACTAn anadromous Arctic char (male) was recorded in southwestern Spitsbergen, in a very muddy glacial river, in August 2008. This is apparently the first specimen of this species observed in such an unfavourable habitat in Svalbard.

Solution to the "Char Problem" based on Arctic Char (Salvelinus alpinus) in Norway
Canadian Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences, 1983Rearing and transplantation experiments demonstrate that three coexisting forms of Arctic char Salvelinus alpinus (anadromous, small and large freshwater residents) belong to the same gene pool. The parr of each form segregate into all three forms.
