Historic changes in cod stocks and cod fisheries: Northeast Arctic cod
2023Observations made in Norwegian waters in this century have been used to interpret the fragmentary fishery and climate data from the period 1500 to 1900. During the Little Ice Age, lasting from about 1550 to 1850, the Northeast Arctic cod stock went through large fluctuations in stock size, as reflected in catch per unit of effort and in overall catch ...

Population Genetic Diversity of Arctic Cod (Boreogadus saida) of Russian Arctic Seas
Journal of Ichthyology, 2019We present the data on genetic variation of Arctic cod Boreogadus saida assessed using seven microsatellite loci in four samples collected in the Kara, Laptev, and East-Siberian seas in 2014 and 2017. We found small but mostly statistically significant differences between the samples.

Haemoglobin variation in cod — a reliable marker for Arctic cod (Gadus morhua L.)
Fisheries Research, 1993Abstract During a 5 year period more than 5000 individual cod specimens have been collected from the Barents Sea and spawning sites in northern Norway, and have been classified for otolith type and haemoglobin genotype. The results demonstrate a close correspondence to earlier results obtained almost 25 years ago, suggesting stability of haemoglobin ...

Ecological adaptation of reproduction in Northeast Arctic cod
Fisheries Research, 1987Abstract A recent period (1977–1982) of cold climate in the Barents Sea resulted in a greatly reduced feeding area available for the Arctic cod and in consistently low recruitment. With the start of a warmer period in 1982/83, the area and potential for production of cod biomass expanded and recruitment has increased.
