Food Habits of Aleutian Island Arctic Foxes
The Murrelet, 1987The contents of 86 Arctic fox (Alopex lagopus) stomachs from Nizki and Alaid Islands and 193 scats from Kagalaska Island, Aleutian Islands, Alaska, were analyzed and compared. Seabirds, mostly cormorants (Phalacrocorax spp.), were the most common prey items (48.7% frequency) in the Nizki-Alaid samples. Insects (28.2% frequency), sea lion carrion (17.9%)

Journal of Wildlife DiseasesThe Arctic fox (Vulpes lagopus) is the primary infection reservoir of Arctic rabies, the dynamics of which are poorly understood and subject to significant spatiotemporal variation. Although rabies presence has been documented in the region since the mid-19th century, there is currently no evidence of rabies impacting Arctic fox population size.
