Arctic Sea Ice and the Mean Temperature of the Northern Hemisphere [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
The importance of snow cover and ice extent in the Northern Hemisphere was recognized by various authors leading to a positive feedback of surface reflectivity on climate. In fact, the retreat of Arctic sea ice is accompanied by enhanced solar input in the Arctic region, i.e. a decrease of the terrestrial albedo.

Weakening of the stratospheric polar vortex by Arctic sea-ice loss [PDF]

open access: yes
Successive cold winters of severely low temperatures in recent years have had critical social and economic impacts on the mid-latitude continents in the Northern Hemisphere.

Water Body Distributions Across Scales: A Remote Sensing Based Comparison of Three Arctic Tundra Wetlands [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Water bodies are ubiquitous features in Arctic wetlands. Ponds, i.e., waters with a surface area smaller than 104 m2, have been recognized as hotspots of biological activity and greenhouse gas emissions but are not well inventoried.

Icephobic Gradient Polymer Coatings Coupled with Electromechanical De‐icing Systems: A Promising Ice Repellent Hybrid System

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A hybrid system for de‐icing made of gradient polymer coatings, deposited on aluminum coupled with an electromechanical system, is demonstrated as an effective and durable strategy for reducing drastically ice adhesion. The system is capable of detaching ice blocks over the coating in less than 1 s, regardless of the ice type and covered area ...

SHIFT METHOD AS A RESERVE FOR THE TRANSFORMATION OF MIGRATION PROCESSES IN THE REGIONS OF THE RUSSIAN ARCTIC

open access: yesСевер и рынок: формирование экономического порядка, 2022
The implementation of investment projects in the regions of the Russian Arctic requires appropriate staffing, which, in conditions of negative migration dynamics, becomes one of the key risks for them.

Effects of Uncertainty in Climate Inputs on Simulated Evapotranspiration and Runoff in the Western Arctic [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Hydrological models require accurate precipitation and air temperature inputs in order to adequately depict water fluxes and storages across Arctic regions.

Ultra‐Shallow Flat Heat Waves on Low Thermal Conductivity Flexible Polyimide Substrate for Millisecond Thermal Analysis of Materials and Bioelectronic Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An electronic system is presented consisting of a silver thin‐film electrode on a polyimide substrate working both as a heating element and a resistive temperature sensor, generating millisecond heat pulses with very fast heating and cooling rates and a flat peak temperature with a tunable duration.
