A New Model of Feeding Biomechanics Based on Tied‐Arch Principles

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
This new biomechanical model explains the major stress and strain patterns generated through the cranium during biting. The model proposes that the cranium resolves bite‐induced reaction forces through arcs of compressive stress that span the cranial structure between biting teeth and both jaw joints.

Machine Learning‐Based Screening for Osteonecrosis of the Jaw in Panoramic Radiographs

open access: yesAustralian Dental Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Osteonecrosis of the jaw (ONJ) is a serious condition associated mainly with antiresorptive therapy and maxillofacial radiotherapy. As detection of its radiographic findings may facilitate patient referral, this study aimed to develop convolutional neural networks (CNNs) for ONJ screening in panoramic radiographs (OPGs).

Prediction of coarctation of the aorta in fetuses with transposition of great arteries: Inverted ventricular discrepancy as a predictor of arch repair in TGA

open access: yesActa Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica, EarlyView.
Fetal MV/TV ratio offers a simple and reproducible marker of AAO in TGA with a cutoff of ≥ 1.0 accurately predicting the need for arch repair. This simple echocardiographic marker improves prenatal risk stratification and surgical planning, facilitating prenatal counseling. Abstract Introduction Transposition of great arteries (TGA) with coarctation of

Biometric Analysis of Giant and Large Murid Remains From Matja Kuru 2, Timor‐Leste

open access: yesArchaeometry, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Published research on Matja Kuru 2 (MK2) demonstrates its significance for understanding human lifestyle during the terminal Pleistocene and Holocene. Murids represent the most commonly identified taxa in the site, with specimens preliminarily classified as small, large and giant based on size comparisons.

Multiple cardiac malformations in a calf

open access: yesAustralian Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
This paper describes the morphopathological aspects of a case of multiple cardiac malformations in a calf. A two‐day‐old male calf of undefined breed was born with an ectopic heart, presenting with dyspnoea and in lateral recumbency. The owner had repositioned the exposed heart beneath the adjacent skin, which was suclosed, without additional incisions

Unravelling the phylogeny of armadillos and their kin (Mammalia, Xenarthra, Cingulata) combining morphological, molecular, and stratigraphic data

open access: yesCladistics, EarlyView.
Abstract Cingulata, a major lineage of Xenarthra, comprises extinct and extant armoured placental mammals that diversified throughout the Cenozoic. Despite extensive study, phylogenetic hypotheses based on morphological and molecular data remain incongruent, and no total evidence analysis has been conducted. Here, we integrate the largest morphological

Orofacial pain disorder or trigeminal autonomic cephalalgia? Insights into pathophysiology and implications in medicine and dentistry

open access: yesHeadache: The Journal of Head and Face Pain, EarlyView.
There are some headache disorders known as trigeminal autonomic cephalalgias (TACs). When these “headaches” are localized in the mid‐face region, they are known as “trigeminal autonomic orofacial pains” (TAOPs), and they can mimic other types of face pains including dental pain, which puts the patient at risk of receiving treatments that are incorrect.

Machine Learning Model for Predicting Postoperative Pain in Cases of Irreversible Pulpitis

open access: yesInternational Endodontic Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aim Postoperative pain is a frequent clinical concern following endodontic treatment. This study aimed to develop and validate supervised machine learning models to predict the occurrence of postoperative pain in cases of irreversible pulpitis.

Prevalence of the Posterior Ponticulus and Arcuate Foramen in a Kenyan Population: A Cross-Sectional Radiological Study

open access: yesEast African Journal of Neurological Sciences
Background: Complete posterior ponticuli and the resultant arcuate foramen may compress the third part of the vertebral artery and the sub occipital nerve as they cross the neural arch of the atlas. This may manifest with neurological deficits and also complicate surgical access to lesions in the craniovertebral junction.
