Functionalized Antifouling Polymer Brushes for Biospecific Surfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, Volume 12, Issue 14, July 25, 2025.
Modern biosensors offer high sensitivity but often struggle with long‐term stability and selectivity for specific targets. Antifouling polymer brushes help enhance both stability and selectivity. In this review, we compare recent antifouling coatings, their design parameters, and how they are integrated with biorecognition elements for improved ...

Improved Dewatering of Mature Fine Tailings Using High Molecular Weight Polyacrylamide Grafted From an Activated Carbon Surface by Surface‐Initiated ATRP

open access: yesJournal of Applied Polymer Science, Volume 142, Issue 22, June 10, 2025.
Efforts to address mature fine tailings in oil sand processing are advanced through the grafting of high molecular weight polyacrylamide onto activated carbon via surface‐initiated ATRP. Two grafting methods are compared, demonstrating improved dewatering performance with solids content increasing up to 50 wt%, offering a sustainable solution for ...

Oxygen‐Tolerant ATRP Depolymerization Enabled by an External Radical Source

open access: yesMacromolecular Rapid Communications, Volume 46, Issue 10, May 19, 2025.
The low radical concentrations required for efficient monomer recovery in solution depolymerization make open‐air depolymerization particularly challenging. Herein, an open‐vessel, oxygen‐tolerant ATRP depolymerization is demonstrated, where dissolved oxygen is eliminated using high catalyst loadings or radical initiator, achieving >90 ...

Basicity Can Choregraph Regeneration in Homogeneous ARGET ATRP of Styrene

open access: yes, 2022
There are two drawbacks in the use of H2AA when polymerizing a hydrophobic monomer such as styrene. First, the low solubility of the reducing agent in non-aqueous solvents. Second, the reduction kinetic rate constant of the catalyst by H2AA is around two-orders of magnitude lower than that of ascorbate (HAA–).

ARGET ATRP of copolymerization of styrene and acrylonitrile with environmentally friendly catalyst and ligand

open access: yese-Polymers, 2012
Abstract The atom transfer radical polymerization of styrene and acrylonitrile using activators regenerated electron transfer (ARGET) has been carried out in N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) at 90 °C in the presence of air with a catalyst system of FeCl 3 ·6H ...
