New haemostatic techniques: argon plasma coagulation
Best Practice & Research Clinical Gastroenterology, 1999Bleeding is one of the main challenges for endoscopists. Despite a large number of methods for haemostasis, several types of haemorrhage lack an adequate therapeutic remedy. Argon plasma-coagulation (APC), a new method for the non-contact application of high-frequency current, promises to solve many of these problems.

Argon plasma coagulation (APC) is an electrosurgical procedure in which electrical energy in the form of ionized argon gas is transferred to target tissue. The APC device uses non-contact thermal energy in the form of ionized gas or plasma for coagulation of the tissue. This technique was first used in open surgical and laparoscopic procedures nearly 2

Massive Hemorrhage With Argon Plasma Coagulation
Journal of Bronchology & Interventional Pulmonology, 2010We report the first case of massive hemorrhage after argon plasma coagulation of an endobronchial tumor that obstructed the right main bronchus. This is the first report of bleeding complication with argon plasma coagulation while attempting to remove the tumor. The patient was successfully resuscitated and discharged without sequelae.

Argon plasma coagulation for radiation proctitis
Scandinavian Journal of Gastroenterology, 2006Rectal blood loss is a common late sequel of radiation proctitis. Teleangiectasias appear in the mucosa in 2-5% of patients after radiotherapy of the pelvis. Since pharmacotherapy is usually not beneficial, local treatment modalities with formalin irrigation, Nd:YAG laser and argon plasma coagulation (APC) have been advocated, but experience is still ...

Mechanism of oxygen and argon low pressure plasma etching on polyethylene (UHMWPE)
Surface & Coatings Technology, 2019Different preferential sites for etching are observed for low pressure argon and oxygen plasma on ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene. Atomic force microscopy analysis showed an organized pattern after 1 min of oxygen plasma treatment.

Argon plasma irradiation of polypropylene
Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section B: Beam Interactions with Materials and Atoms, 2010Abstract Polypropylene samples were exposed to argon plasma discharge and the changes of the PP surface properties were studied by different methods. Surface wettability was derived from contact angle measured by standard goniometry and chemical structure of the plasma modified PP was studied using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and by ...

Zirconium sputtering by argon–hydrogen and argon–oxygen plasma
Surface and Coatings Technology, 2003Abstract The effects on the sputtering of zirconium by mixing hydrogen or oxygen with argon plasma were investigated. Plasmas were generated by electron cyclotron resonance (ECR) heating. The zirconium target was cylindrical, 7 cm in diameter, 2 cm in length and 0.1 mm in thickness, and was set on the downstream side from the ECR point. The zirconium

Argon plasma coagulation in chronic radiation proctitis
Endoscopy, 2007Chronic radiation proctitis is a relatively common late complication of pelvic irradiation. The main symptoms are diarrhea, urgency, tenesmus, and rectal bleeding. While mild cases may settle spontaneously over some months, severe hemorrhagic radiation proctitis may require repeated blood transfusions and is difficult to treat with medical therapy ...

Filtered Thomson scattering in an argon plasma
AIAA Journal, 2001A filtered Thomson scattering technique has been developed to measure electron temperature T e and electron number density n e in an atmospheric pressure argon plasma. The problems of the strong background scattered light and the high plasma luminosity were resolved by employing an atomic vapor filter that provided strong attenuation of stray ...

Non-LTE Argon-plasma Composition
Czechoslovak Journal of Physics, 2005In this paper theory of calculation of non-LTE plasma composition is presented. The calculations are conducted for argon plasma for temperature ranges from 500 K to 30, 000 K and T e/T h ratios from 1 to 10. The effect of different versions of the Saha equation, Debye length, lowering of ionisation energy and pressure correction on the argon-plasma ...
