Paleopathology of a putative colossosaurian caudal vertebra (Neosauropoda: Titanosauria) from the Presidente Prudente Formation, Brazil

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Studies investigating paleopathologies in sauropods remain scarce despite their relative abundance in the fossil record. In this study we report new occurrence of paleopathological features, corresponding to a neoplasm found in a middle caudal vertebra (MCT.R.2120) of an advanced titanosaur from the Presidente Prudente Formation (Bauru Basin ...

Exceptional preservation informs the paleobiology of tapinocephalid dinocephalians

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract The tapinocephalid dinocephalian Moschops is one of the most iconic taxa of the middle Permian, yet its paleobiology remains one of the least well‐known. Here, we address some aspects of paleoneurology and paleobiology of Moschops using CT scanning of four well preserved skulls from the upper Abrahamskraal Formation of South Africa. Two of the

A new occurrence of tetrapod footprints from the Late Triassic of the Candelária Sequence, Brazil

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract The Hyperodapedon Assemblage Zone of the Candelária Sequence (Santa Maria Supersequence, Paraná Basin) preserves one of the most significant Late Triassic continental vertebrate assemblages in southern Brazil. Despite the relatively well‐documented body fossil record from this interval, ichnological records remain comparatively scarce.

Osteohistological evidence for terrestrial adaptation and an extended growth period in mekosuchine crocodylians and its potential role in their extinction

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract The Australasian crocodylian fossil record is dominated by the extinct endemic clade Mekosuchinae, with known members spanning the Eocene‐to‐Holocene. This diverse clade exhibited high morphological disparity, from early members superficially similar to Crocodylus, to more terrestrial forms later in the clade's evolutionary history.

Morphological plasticity in the dentition of the lungfish Gnathorhiza from the Permian of Brazil: A population‐level geometric morphometric analysis

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Dental plates are pivotal in the lungfish paleontological record, constituting highly mineralized structures resilient to diagenetic processes. This study provides a detailed description and quantitative shape analysis of 95 newly discovered Gnathorhiza sp. dental plates from the Middle–Late Permian Corumbataí Formation, Brazil.

Bioerosion traces in bones reveal an increase in ethological diversity in the insect exploitation of carcasses in the late Triassic

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract This study presents the first detailed description of bioerosion traces produced by insects in bones from the Santa Cruz Sequence (early Carnian, Santa Maria Supersequence, Brazil). An array of traces is reported, consisting of notches, a tube, trails of grooves attributed to the ichnotaxon Osteocallis mandibulus and ornamented depressions ...

Extractive industries in arid and semi-arid zones environmental planning and management

open access: yes, 2003
This publication aims to contribute to planning and management approaches that minimise land degradation and desertification in arid and semi-arid zones as a result of extractive industries operations.
