Spatiotemporal trends of aridity index in arid and semi-arid regions of Iran

Theoretical and Applied Climatology, 2012
The spatiotemporal trends of aridity index in the arid and semi-arid regions of Iran in 1966–2005 were investigated using the Mann–Kendall test and Theil–Sen’s slope estimator. The results of the analysis showed negative trends in annual aridity index at 55 % of the stations, while just one site had a statistically significant (α = 0.1) negative trend.

Agricultural Reference Index for Drought (ARID)

Agronomy Journal, 2012
Several drought indices are available to compute the degree of drought to which crops are exposed. They vary in complexity, generality, and the adequacy with which they represent processes in the soil, plant, and atmosphere. Agricultural Reference Index for Drought (ARID) was developed as a reference index to approximate the water stress factor that is

Aridification, precipitations and crop productivity: evidence from the aridity index

European Review of Agricultural Economics, 2023
Abstract The economic effects of global warming have gained considerable attention in the recent economic literature. While the relationship between rainfall and agriculture is well known, precipitations alone do not capture the soil water availability, which depends on the evaporation of the water (potential evapotranspiration [PET ...

Assessment of aridity index in Iran

International Journal of Information and Decision Sciences, 2017
This paper discusses spatial and temporal variability of climate parameters of Zayandeh Rood Basin (Z.R.B.) in Iran. Standard climate parameters are precipitation, temperature, evaporation and wind (during 1951-2005). Objective of this research was to evaluate coefficients of drought index in the study area by calculating coefficients of drought and ...

Non-parametric trend analysis of the aridity index for three large arid and semi-arid basins in Iran

Theoretical and Applied Climatology, 2012
Currently, an important scientific challenge that researchers are facing is to gain a better understanding of climate change at the regional scale, which can be especially challenging in an area with low and highly variable precipitation amounts such as Iran.
