ARIDITY INDEX AND CLIMATIC RISK OF DESERTIFICATION IN THE SEMI-ARID STATE OF SERGIPE

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Climatologia, 2019
The semi-arid is a region of high temperatures and low rainfall conditions, and can be the gateway to the establishment of climatic processes that aggravate this aridity condition. Therefore, the objective of the present study was to identify the areas most susceptible to desertification in the semi-arid state of Sergipe, through the application of the

Photothermal Macroporous Lignin Cryogels for Off‐Grid, Continuous Atmospheric Water Collection via Interlayer Heat Recovery

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Photothermal, macroporous lignin‐based cryogels are engineered to convert sunlight into low‐grade heat. Integrated as stacked beds in a drum‐type device, a thin copper interlayer transfers waste heat between beds, enabling interlayer heat recovery and continuous solar cycling.

Scalable Polyelectrolyte Complex‐Based Sorbent With Hourly Sorption−Desorption Cycles for Multicyclic Atmospheric Water Harvesting in Arid Environments

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A polyelectrolyte complex‐based sorbent is produced by scalable, environmentally benign aqueous phase inversion. Its porous, LiCl‐ and GO‐integrated architecture enables hourly adsorption−desorption cycles at low relative humidity (RH < 30%). A large‐scale prototype achieves multicyclic, solar‐driven atmospheric water harvesting of 1.37 L kg−1 day−1 ...

Global Distribution of Climatic Aridity

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2023
Aridity exerts fundamental controls on terrestrial hydrology with impacts on ecosystems and society. Here we show that the global distribution of dryness index is dominated by the exponential variability of precipitation.

Science‐Towards‐Technology Breakthrough in CO2 Electroreduction: Multiphysics, Multiscale, and Artificial Intelligence Insights

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Electrochemical CO2RR is a key technology for converting CO2 into chemicals, but there remains a gap between “laboratory science” and “engineering practice” in current research. This review establishes a multi‐scale research framework, encompassing atomic‐level characterization, microenvironment regulation, external field‐assisted optimization, and AI ...

A Comprehensive Review of Waste‐Derived Materials for Solar Still Performance Enhancement

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Solar desalination reduces energy use and produces freshwater sustainably, but its productivity is limited and cannot meet rising demand. Thus, solar desalination system improvements are sought to boost water productivity. Waste materials are abundantly available and burden the environment, making them low‐cost enhancers for solar desalination

Evaluation of Aridity Index in the Czech Republic within 1961-2015 [PDF]

open access: yesActa Universitatis Agriculturae et Silviculturae Mendelianae Brunensis, 2018
Drought (similarly as flooding) is considerably the gravest agrometeorological extreme connected with climate change and bringing the highest losses in an agricultural production. The objective of this paper is to study the spatial and temporal variability of the Aridity Index (AI) in the Czech Republic, per decade, during the 55‑year period (1961–2015)
