A Phylogenetic Exploration of the Catfish Family Ariidae (Otophysi: Siluriformes)
The phylogeny of the catfish family Ariidae is hypothesised based on examination of material from almost all regions of the family's circumglobal distribution yet concentrating on Salmi Shelf taxa. Morphological and osteological characters were investigated to determine which would usefully contribute to construction of a phylogeny for the family: 57 ...

In the 1970s, Tavolga conducted a series of experiments in which he found behavioral evidence that the vocalizations of the catfish species Ariopsis felis may play a role in a coarse form of echolocation. Based on his findings, he postulated a similar function for the calls of closely related catfish species.

Reproductive biology of two marine catfishes (Siluriformes, Ariidae) in the Sepetiba Bay, Brazil
Marine catfish are abundant in the Sepetiba Bay, a 305 km 2 area in Southeast Brazilian coast (Lat. 22º 54’-23º 04’S; Long. 43 o 44’-44 o 10’W), but the knowledge on their biology is still scanty.
