Microtubules are cylindrical protein polymers that organize the cytoskeleton and play essential roles in intracellular transport, cell division, and possibly cognition. Their highly ordered, quasi-crystalline lattice of tubulin dimers, notably tryptophan

The EKOR-stratification on the Siegel modular variety with parahoric level structure [PDF]
We study the arithmetic geometry of the reduction modulo $p$ of the Siegel modular variety with parahoric level structure. We realize the EKOR-stratification on this variety as the fibers of a smooth morphism into an algebraic stack parametrizing ...

Robust Spot Melting by 3D Spot Arrangements in Electron Beam Powder Bed Fusion
This work proposes an approach to replace separately melted contours for spot melting in electron beam powder fusion. Adapting the spot arrangements close to the contour combined with stacking yields a comparable surface quality without the inherent challenges of separate contours, as demonstrated, by electron optical images and roughness measurements.

Vector Arithmetic in the Triangular Grid
Vector arithmetic is a base of (coordinate) geometry, physics and various other disciplines. The usual method is based on Cartesian coordinate-system which fits both to continuous plane/space and digital rectangular-grids.

Optimization of the Production of Rubber Compounds Using Mathematical Models
Rubber compounds were mixed in a batch internal mixer, and symbolic regression was used to derive mathematical models linking recipe and process parameters to ram path, torque, and mixing quality (incorporation, dispersion, distribution). Subsequent optimization with evolutionary algorithms identified operating conditions that reduce specific energy ...

For lack of objects: Denying the constructive character of arithmetic [PDF]
Kant's arithmetical judgements do not meet his standard for mathematical construction. In his view, mathematics is synthetic a priori because it constructs mathematical objects a priori. The method of constructing is not one that philosophy can mimic but

Coarse‐grained (left) and atomistic (right) models of the shape memory polymer ESTANE ETE 75DT3 are shown schematically. The two representations bridge molecular detail and mesoscopic description. Both models capture shape memory behavior, linking segmental mobility and conformational relaxation of anisotropic chains to macroscopic recovery, and ...

On Architectural Practice and Arithmetic Abilities in Renaissance Italy
The article examines the figure of the architect at work in Renaissance Italy, when a major change occurred in the practice of design with the spread of arithmetic. This deep scientific, technical, methodological, and cultural shift involved the image of

Aluminum and nitride coatings are used in industry because they are hard, resist wear, and protect against oxidation. Adding boron can improve friction behavior and other properties. This study tests coatings on surfaces with different finishes. Results show smoother surfaces perform better, while rough ones wear faster, although coatings can reduce ...
