Modular properties and decompositions of arithmetic matroids

2017
In this thesis, we introduce the concepts of Z-closure operators and Z-flat lattices of arithmetic matroids, and show that for a representable arithmetic matroid, the characteristic polynomial of the associated toric arrangement is equal to the characteristic polynomial of the associated Z-flat at lattice.

Arithmetic matroids and an application to number theory

Matroids are combinatorial structures that abstract the notion of linear independence on finite sets. In their most famous examples they closely connect finite dimensional linear algebra with graph theory. In applications they are mostly regarded together with their most important invariant: the Tutte polynomial T (x, y).
