Minimizing cutting costs in 1D rod cutting

open access: yesInternational Transactions in Operational Research, EarlyView.
Abstract We study a one‐dimensional rod‐cutting problem arising from an industrial setting where cutting itself carries cost. Each order specifies a length interval, and the task is to assign orders to warehouse rods so that all orders are satisfied while the number of cuts is minimized.

Spectral Transforms as a Tool to Optimize Digital Phenotyping in Biological Images

open access: yesJournal of Animal Breeding and Genetics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Modern livestock breeding has mastered genotyping. Genome‐wide association studies, genomic selection, and SNP arrays enable genetic merit prediction at lower cost. However, phenotyping remains the bottleneck, as manual measurement is slow, expensive, subjective, and unable to capture spatial or temporal trait organization. Digital phenotyping

The MacBrain Resource Center (MBRC) rhesus macaque embryonic brain histology datasets

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
We introduce the MacBrain Resource Center (MBRC) Collections of rhesus macaque embryonic brain tissue. Here, we illustrate histo‐ and immunohistology from our dynamically growing Collection 6, which currently contains >10,000 zoomable and downloadable images from n = 14 male and female embryos from early to late in gestation.

Fairness‐aware insurance pricing: A multi‐objective optimization approach

open access: yesJournal of Risk and Insurance, EarlyView.
Abstract Machine‐learning models can provide accurate predictions in insurance pricing, but can also increase disparities between protected groups. Existing fairness‐aware pricing approaches typically target one fairness notion at a time, making it difficult to compare trade‐offs between predictive accuracy, group fairness, individual fairness, and ...

Artificial Intelligence in Orthodontics: Part 1—Basic Concepts

open access: yesOrthodontics &Craniofacial Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly being integrated into orthodontic research and clinical practice. This review paper consists of three parts and aims to establish a foundational understanding of AI concepts for readers from non‐technical backgrounds while familiarising them with its applications and challenges within the field of ...
