Molecular Evolution and Gene Diversity of Dermatan Sulfate Sulfotransferases in Ascidians

open access: yesProteoglycan Research, Volume 3, Issue 4, October 2025.
ABSTRACT Ascidians (Chordata, Tunicata) are model organisms for studying molecules, particularly sulfated glycosaminoglycans (GAGs), due to their phylogenetic proximity to vertebrates and unique GAG variants. Over‐sulfated dermatan sulfate (DS) contributes to proteoglycan diversity and cellular processes in metazoans.

What are the consequences of water stress on the development of late postzygotic reproductive isolation in an orchid hybrid zone?

open access: yesPlant Species Biology, Volume 40, Issue 5, Page 426-438, September 2025.
Hybrids vulnerable to drought may increase postzygotic isolation in hybrid zones. Drought experiments can reveal the influence of climate change on hybrid zones. Crassulacean acid metabolism in parental species and hybrids was negatively affected by drought.

First record of Pseudaeginella arraialensis (Amphipoda: Caprellidea) from the Gulf of Mexico

open access: yesRevista Mexicana de Biodiversidad, 2020
During a sampling campaign in Puerto Progreso, Yucatán, Mexico, several specimens of the caprellid Pseudaeginella arraialensis were collected. They were attached to buoys as part of fouling communities between 0.5-12 m depth.

Ascidians (Urochordata: Ascidiacea) from Arraial do Cabo, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil Ascídias (Urochordata: Ascidiacea) do Arraial do Cabo, Rio de Janeiro, Brasil

open access: yesIheringia: Série Zoologia, 2005
Simple and colonial ascidians were collected at different depths at Arraial do Cabo, Rio de Janeiro, between 2000 and 2003. The collection here presented includes representatives of the families Clavelinidae (Clavelina oblonga), Polycitoridae (Cystodytes dellechiajei), Polyclinidae (Polyclinum constellatum and Polyclinum molle sp.

At their fingertips: What is the impact of online reporting of domestic violence?

open access: yesPublic Administration Review, Volume 85, Issue 5, Page 1365-1384, September/October 2025.
Abstract Global reports indicate that 307 million women have suffered physical or sexual intimate partner violence during the last 12 months. Yet, chronic underreporting of domestic violence (DV) is still a reality in the United States and worldwide. The process of going to a police station and reporting DV is extremely burdensome, leading to numerous ...

The Dark Side of Mucus: Stress‐Induced Mucus Aggregate (SIMA) on Tubastraea Corals in a Heavily Impacted Bay

open access: yesAustral Ecology, Volume 50, Issue 8, August 2025.
ABSTRACT This study investigates the absence of non‐indigenous sun coral Tubastraea in Guanabara Bay, Rio de Janeiro, despite its presence on nearby islands. Tubastraea corals are known for their high reproductive plasticity and resilience to varying environmental conditions.

Tectonic Framework and Low‐Oblique Rifting Kinematics of the Campos Basin, Southeastern Brazilian Margin

open access: yesTectonics, Volume 44, Issue 6, June 2025.
Abstract Understanding the tectonic framework of extensional margins is fundamental to unraveling kinematics, basement inheritance and magmatism during rifting. Using regional gravity and magnetic surveys, 2D and 3D seismic reflection data and well information in the Campos Basin, we conducted a systematic structural mapping of the syn‐rift building ...

A Common Terminology to Unify Research and Conservation of Coralline Algae and the Habitats They Create

open access: yesAquatic Conservation: Marine and Freshwater Ecosystems, Volume 35, Issue 3, March 2025.
ABSTRACT Linguistic uncertainty is a prime source of uncertainty pervading ecology and conservation. Coralline algae are a widespread and diverse group of calcifying red macroalgae that underpin coastal ecosystem function and service provision. Recent increasing interest in coralline algae in the scientific literature has revealed a diverse but ...
