Applications of Array Signal Processing
2014Abstract Array Signal Processing (ASP) refers to the collection and manipulation of data obtained from multiple spatially distributed sensors or antennas, in an effort to extract information about the sources of signals present in the data. As discussed in this chapter, such problems arise in many different fields, including radar, sonar, medicine ...

In this chapter, an overview of the fundamentals of array signal processing is provided with a particular emphasis on recent advances in direction-ofarrival (DOA) estimation and adaptive beamforming. It is then highlighted that the signal models used in array processing and space-time block coded MIMO communications are rather similar. At the same time,

Sparse Array Signal Processing
2023This dissertation details three approaches for direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation or beamforming in array signal processing from the perspective of sparsity. In the first part of this dissertation, we consider sparse array beamformer design based on the alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM); in the second part of this dissertation, the ...

Trends in array signal processing
Sixth Multidimensional Signal Processing Workshop, 2003Summary form only given, as follows. Arrays and associated signal processing algorithms have been in use for many years. In recent years, a new wave of algorithms has swept upon the scene promising superior performance at the expense of computational load. Rather than a litany of unrelated algorithms, these new approaches are based on a small number of

Implantable multielectrode array with on-chip signal processing
1986 IEEE International Solid-State Circuits Conference. Digest of Technical Papers, 1986This active probe can be used for the long-term recording of extracellular neural biopotentials and as a basis for closed-loop neural prostheses. The probe incorporates on-chip circuitry for amplifying, multiplexing, and buffering neural signals recorded from ten recording electrodes spaced 100-/spl mu/m apart. It requires only three leads and operates

A new sensor array signal processing technique
Proceedings of ICASSP '94. IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing, 2002A signal combination technique, based on the spectral replication property of sampling, is presented. The technique uses second-order bandpass sampling to provide some phase control over the component signals. Although the phase control is not independent between the signals and is further constrained by inherent amplitude scaling, quasi-independent ...

Signal-Independent Array Processing
2016The process of combining signals acquired by a microphone array in order to ‘focus’ on a signal in a specific direction is known as beamforming or spatial filtering. This chapter considers signal-independent (fixed) beamformers, controlled by weights only dependent on the direction of arrival of the source to be extracted, and which do not otherwise ...

Signal Processing Aspects of the Low Frequency Array
2007 IEEE International Conference on Signal Processing and Communications, 2007In the Northern part of the Netherlands ASTRON is building the largest radio telescope in the world for low frequencies. The telescope is based on phased array principles and is known as the LOw Frequency ARray (LOFAR). LOFAR is optimized for detecting astronomical signals in the 30-80 MHz and 120-240 MHz frequency window.

Signal processing challenges for radio astronomical arrays
2014 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing (ICASSP), 2014Current and future radio telescopes, in particular the Square Kilometre Array (SKA), are envisaged to produce large images (> 10 8 pixels) with over 60 dB dynamic range. This poses a number of image reconstruction and technological challenges, which will require novel approaches to image reconstruction and design of data processing systems.

Signal-Dependent Array Processing
2016In this chapter, we derive spherical harmonic domain signal-dependent beamformers, whose weights depend on the second-order statistics of the desired signal and/or of the noise to be suppressed. These beamformers adaptively seek to achieve optimal performance in terms of noise reduction and speech distortion.
