Polarization-insensitive silicon nitride arrayed waveguide grating [PDF]
Next-generation passive optical networks require integrated, polarization-insensitive wavelength-division multiplexing solutions, for which the recently emerging low-loss silicon nitride nanophotonic platforms hold great potential. A novel polarization-insensitive arrayed waveguide grating (AWG) built with silicon nitride waveguides is presented in ...

Arrayed waveguide grating based on group-index modification [PDF]
The authors propose a new wavelength-dispersive principle based on waveguide group-index modification and apply this principle in a new type of arrayed waveguide dispersive element based on modified group index. The element is composed by an array of waveguides consisting of two sections with different group indexes. We deduce the applicable dispersion

Large-Scale and Simple-Configuration Optical Switch Enabled by Asymmetric-Port-Count Subswitches
We propose a novel optical switch architecture for intra-datacenter interconnection. The proposed switch consists of asymmetric-port-count delivery-and-coupling (DC) switches and wavelength-routing (WR) switches based on arrayed-waveguide gratings (AWGs).

Low-loss arrayed waveguide grating at 760 nm
An arrayed waveguide grating (AWG) at 760 nm is demonstrated with an insertion loss smaller than 0.5 dB. Interface roughness and waveguide length errors contribute much more to scattering loss and phase errors at 760 nm than at longer wavelengths, thus requiring improved design and fabrication.

Multifunctional Metasurfaces for Bridging Terahertz Waves in Free Space and Waveguides
A multifunctional terahertz metasurface capable of simultaneous orthogonal polarization conversion and phase modulation is integrated onto a dielectric slab waveguide, thereby enabling efficient free‐space‐to‐guided‐wave coupling. By implementing tailored phase gradients on the metasurface, we demonstrate the formation of a focused spot within the ...
