Prehospital neurological deterioration in stroke [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Patients with stroke can experience neurological deterioration in the prehospital setting. We evaluated patients with stroke to determine factors associated with prehospital neurological deterioration (PND).

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Discrete-time queues with zero-regenerative arrivals: moments and examples [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In this paper we investigate a single-server discrete-time queueing system with single-slot service times. The stationary ergodic arrival process this queueing system is subject to, satisfies a regeneration property when there are no arrivals during a ...

Transition from discrete to continuous time of arrival distribution for a quantum particle

open access: yes, 2005
We show that the Kijowski distribution for time of arrivals in the entire real line is the limiting distribution of the time of arrival distribution in a confining box as its length increases to infinity.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Exact Energy-Time Uncertainty Relation for Arrival Time by Absorption

open access: yes, 2011
We prove an uncertainty relation for energy and arrival time, where the arrival of a particle at a detector is modeled by an absorbing term added to the Hamiltonian.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Prediction of Bus Arrival Times at Bus Stop

open access: yesInternational Journal of Technology, 2017
Bus arrival time is very important to passengers, not only at the origin terminal but also at every stop. If there is no predicted arrival time at a stop, the headway designed should match the bus frequency at the stop. The uncertainty in bus arrival
