The Thermodynamical Arrow and the Historical Arrow; Are They Equivalent? [PDF]
In this paper, the relationship between the thermodynamic and historical arrows of time is studied. In the context of a simple combinatorial model, their definitions are made more precise and in particular strong versions (which are not compatible with time symmetric microscopic laws) and weak versions (which can be compatible with time symmetric ...

The arrow of time and the nature of spacetime [PDF]
This paper extends the work of a previous paper [arXiv:1208.2611] on the flow of time, to consider the origin of the arrow of time. It proposes that a `past condition' cascades down from cosmological to micro scales, being realized in many ...

On Structures in Arrow Categories [PDF]
In this article we investigate which categorical structures of a category C are inherited by its arrow category. In particular, we show that a monoidal equivalence between two categories gives rise to a monoidal equivalence between their arrow categories. Moreover, we examine under which circumstances an arrow category is rigid and pivotal. Finally, we

The Universal Exponentiable Arrow [PDF]
We show that the essentially algebraic theory of generalized algebraic theories, regarded as a category with finite limits, has a universal exponentiable arrow in the sense that any exponentiable arrow in any category with finite limits is the image of the universal exponentiable arrow by an essentially unique functor.

Quantum gravity, the initial low entropy state of the Universe, and the problem of time are interlocking puzzles. In this article, we address the origin of the arrow of time from a cosmological perspective motivated by a novel approach to quantum ...

AbstractWe present an extension of first-order predicate logic with a novel predicate ‘at t’ meaning intuitively “this term is a variable symbol”. We give simple sequent proof-rules for it, we demonstrate cut-elimination for the resulting logic, and we give a semantics for which the logic is sound and complete.

Avatars and arrows in the brain [PDF]
In this Commentary article we critically assess the claims made by Schurz, Kronbichler, Weissengrubler, Surtees, Samson and Perner (2015) relating to the neural processes underlying theory of mind and visual perspective taking. They attempt to integrate research findings in these two areas of social neuroscience using a perspective taking task ...

The Universal Arrow of Time [PDF]
The Arrow of Time is an empirical feature of nature – time has a direction from the past to the future. However, the laws of Quantitative Science do not generally include the Arrow of Time.
