Can the Arrow of Time be understood from Quantum Cosmology?

open access: yes, 2009
I address the question whether the origin of the observed arrow of time can be derived from quantum cosmology. After a general discussion of entropy in cosmology and some numerical estimates, I give a brief introduction into quantum geometrodynamics and ...

The solution supramolecular structure of α2 → 8 polysialic acid suggests a structural cause for its low immunogenicity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
α2 → 8 polysialic acid elicits poor immunogenicity. Small‐angle scattering shows a supramolecular structure with parallel‐chain binding, although in different forms at μm and mm calcium. The major histocompatibility complex requires molecular weights around 2000 Da to produce antibodies, and 2000 Da polysialic oligomers will bind in these structures ...

Causal, psychological, and electrodynamic time arrows as consequences of the thermodynamic time arrow [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 1998
A clear explanation is given on how the causal, psychological, and electrodynamic time arrows emerge from the thermodynamic time arrow.

Refining the NaV1.7 pharmacophore of a class of venom‐derived peptide inhibitors via a combination of in silico screening and rational engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Venom peptides have shown promise in treating pain. Our study uses computer screening to identify a peptide that targets a sodium channel (NaV1.7) linked to chronic pain. We produced the peptide in the laboratory and refined its design, advancing the search for innovative pain therapies.

Arrow of time in a recollapsing quantum universe

open access: yes, 1994
We show that the Wheeler-DeWitt equation with a consistent boundary condition is only compatible with an arrow of time that formally reverses in a recollapsing universe. Consistency of these opposite arrows is facilitated by quantum effects in the region

Cosmological arrow of time in f(R) gravity [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2016
The cosmological arrow of time may be linked to the thermodynamic arrow by second law of thermodynamics. The time asymmetry is also associated with dissipative fluid as Tolman introduced a viscous fluid to generate an arrow of time in cyclic cosmology.

Identification of novel small molecule inhibitors of ETS transcription factors

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
ETS transcription factors play an essential role in tumourigenesis and are indispensable for sprouting angiogenesis, a hallmark of cancer, which fuels tumour expansion and dissemination. Thus, targeting ETS transcription factor function could represent an effective, multifaceted strategy to block tumour growth. The evolutionarily conserved E‐Twenty‐Six

Ethionamide Pharmacokinetics/Pharmacodynamics-derived Dose, the Role of MICs in Clinical Outcome, and the Resistance Arrow of Time in Multidrug-resistant Tuberculosis.

open access: yesClinical Infectious Diseases, 2018
Background Ethionamide is used to treat multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB). The antimicrobial pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics, the contribution of ethionamide to the multidrug regimen, and events that lead to acquired drug resistance (ADR) are ...

Is the Hypothesis About a Low Entropy Initial State of the Universe Necessary for Explaining the Arrow of Time [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
According to statistical mechanics, micro-states of an isolated physical system (say, a gas in a box) at time t0 in a given macro-state of less-than-maximal entropy typically evolve in such a way that the entropy at time t increases with jt t0j in both ...
